About the Author
Lora Leigh is the author of Live Wire, Forbidden Pleasure, and Enigma, among many others. Writing is her passion, her peace, and her lifeline, and she can often be found daydreaming and plotting and planning with the varied characters that fill her imagination. When she isn't writing, she tends her flower gardens, watches horses romp outside her home, or spends time with the family and pets she fills her life with. She lives in the rolling hills of Kentucky.

But through them all, the focus was very much on the nature of the relationship between/among the heroine, Hero and his selected "third". In Dangerous Pleasure, the previous characters, pre-existing relationships, and the ostensibly highlighted trio were essentially footnotes or minor components of the story overall.
What we are left with is an OK story that focuses much more heavily on political, social and some cultural issues - but really only at a relatively superficial level. Others have written similar stories much more effectively. More importantly, the unique aspects of the Bound Hearts concept, which I found entertaining as an occasional departure from other reading, were not present enough in this story. This was somewhat of an issue in her last book, but it is a major one here.
I appreciate when an author tries to stretch, and to make changes in a series to keep it fresh. I imagine some of this is driven by editors/publishers. But when the changes are to such an extent that what made the series unique is so greatly downplayed, well, the reasons for continuing to read the stories may not be there any longer.
I may be wrong, but based on whom I'm assuming the next story will be about, there's a real chance these issues will continue. I have not yet given up on this series - but my hope is the next book can find a better balance.
On a separate note: the editing/proofreading errors in this book (and in fact, this series) are not as glaring as with LL's other works, however there are still more than there should be from a mainstream publisher.
THE STORY: Abram Mustafa has wanted Paige Galbraith for years. After the murder of his wife, Abram has held himself apart in order to protect those he might care about -- including Paige. Now Paige has been kidnapped by Abram's father and Abram must protect her while he also gives in to the intense passion between them.
OPINION: This book has yet another twist on the menages in Bound Hearts. In this one Abram has his cousin for a third. He tries to get Paige and his cousin to form an emotional connection, but it is clear that Paige will only want and love him. Paige, therefore, wants more emotional connection than Abram wants to give.
This book has less sex than the previous books in the series (not that there isn't a lot of hot sex). There is a more traditional romantic suspense story. The emphasis in the story is on the immediate events, thus we learn less about these characters apart from their relationship and the adventures they are engaged in.
My biggest problem with the story is that I didn't really buy into the reasons that Abram stayed away from Paige. His past is explained too much and there wasn't really an emotional component with his pain in the past. As a result, I could understand his reluctance to get involved with Paige because of his concern with his brother's reaction. What I didn't get was his turning Paige away after they were already sexually involved.
While I enjoyed the story overall, I wish there was more about the emotional life of these characters to intrigue me.
WORTH MENTIONING: This book has a MMF menage that is rooted in a MF relationship.
CONNECTED BOOKS: DANGEROUS PLEASURE is the twelfth book in the Bound Hearts series. It can be read as a standalone although it is closely connected with book 11, GUILTY PLEASURE. It continues the story started in that book.
STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.
