The story tells of two young people, Kaitlin Sinclair in America and Cadmon in Indonesia.
Kaitlin is living with her father's friend due to her mother having died and her father serving in the armed forces. She comes across as quite a "strong willed" young woman, but quite a likeable character.
Cadmon becomes the leader of his people after the death of the former leader. He is also a shapeshifter with the ability to take the form of a tiger.
The paths of the two lead characters cross when Kaitlin has to go to Indonesia and it is easy to see the potential chemistry early on.
Although this is a Young Adult book, don't make the mistake of thinking "oh, it's just another Twilight" - it is so much more than that.
The author has very good descriptive skills and this comes over especially well in the Indonesian section.
For me the complete version of this book cannot come out soon enough.
I loved the realistic dialogue and descriptive writing. You could picture the settings in your mind as if you were actually there. Definitely a book I'll buy my teenage daughter when the complete version comes out!
As a grandmother of three, YA/Paranormal Romance is not ordinarily a genre I would be reading. Then I decided: why not see what my teenage granddaughters might enjoy? I think they would find this book intriguing and captivating.
In the preview I reviewed, Kaitlin is having a tough time. She seems to be losing everyone who is important in her life. From her mother's death, a cheating boyfriend and the presumed death of her father, she is having a difficult adjustment period under the guardianship of her previously undiscovered uncle who has whisked her off to Borneo.
Catrina Barton's writing beautifully builds suspense into the story as we await the unfolding of how Kaitlin will relate to Cadmon and the Caspians, her controlling uncle and others who have been newly introduced into her life. What do these people know about her parents, and what are they hiding? I can hardly wait to find out. Kaitlin has been anticipating a great adventure, and it certainly appears that she will be enveloped in a challenging one!
I encourage EVERYONE to read this book!!!!!!!! You will not be sorry!!!!! :)
Although I found the premise interesting, I never got a good sense of it within the context of what I read. It would be interesting to see this story in its final form.
