About the author

Josie Wilson is a retired librarian. She was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, approximately 15-20 miles from the Mexican border town of Reynosa. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, she returned to the Valley to teach high school English and later became a middle school librarian. After retirement, she went back to school to earn a master’s in English Rhetoric and started writing.
For a while, most of her writing was just for her own enjoyment. As she began to read about people who were able to self publish, she decided to get serious and write her first novel at the age of 73. It has taken a long time to complete the project, since much research was required, and several years turned into a time out caused by the pandemic. Finally she reached her goal and is now considering a sequel. Hopefully, this new project will not take as long.
Josie still lives in Texas but has moved to Houston to help take care of two precious granddaughters.
She would appreciate your reading her book and leaving a review, as reviews help more people to discover the book..

A great historical fiction novel not only gives us the facts and important events in that time period, but it also gives us a picture of what life was like during those times. Expertly woven into the historical background, this novel provides a wonderful story of of two young individuals who were trying to do everything they could to hold their marriage and family together while the major battles of the Revolution kept tearing them apart. The detail of the characters personalities, feelings/emotions, and their actions made the characters come to life. With careful attention given to cultural tradition and viewpoint, it gave another level of complexity to the story. As a reader, I was quickly drawn in to the character's world and I did not want to put the book down until I was finished.
The author, Josie Wilson, mentioned that she began seriously thinking of writing a novel and achieved this at 73 years old. I think she should be very proud of what she has written. She took the time to read and research so many aspects of the Mexican Revolution and the life of the Mexican citizens who had to survive during this time of war. I would love reading another book in this series if the author does choose to do so!

I finished the book in about 3 days! I was so immersed in the story & was praying for a happy ending!
Even though there was much sadness with all the fighting, I was rooting for Kate and Rudy!!!
Thank you so much for this very interesting and historical story!

I love historical novels and have been adding reading based in different countries. The novel follows Katherine, a young woman living on a horse ranch in Texas. When her fiancé assaults her and with no support from her family, she escapes to Mexico and begins a new life. The story is set within the factual story of the Mexican Revolution and the life of Pancho Villa. Katherine is drawn into this story through her work in a local clinic and develops a friendship with Villa’s senior officer. Katherine is not merely an observer of the Revolution but plays an active role in caring for revolutionaries and as her relationship becomes closer, she finds herself at the forefront of the action. I loved how Katherine was a feisty woman, unafraid to assert herself and how she grows during the story. The main narrative is from her perspective and offers a more personal perspective of Pancho Villa and the revolution. I really loved the book and would definitely read more of Josie’s work.
