So I was particularly interested in this author's blunt statement that he never considered himself a hero and that many of his co-workers were (to be polite) unsuited for other employment. I suspect that fire halls are quieter places now that women have entered the service, but any job that entails a great deal of down time will probably always involve some pranks, practical jokes, and other mindless (and possibly hilarious) ways of relieving the tedium. This is a good read with more than it's share of laughs that also offers a look at a way of life which may be satisfying, but ultimately exacts a toll.
Lots of fun, jokes, pranks and bad language. Nowadays most of that is no longer in play.
Has some great stories and antidotes. Read and enjoy.
If you've ever wanted to see what life being a firefighter is about - this is it in all of its non-glamorous, real, gritty and most of all hilarious story.
