That being said...go order the book. Daniel is a great player and the examples given are a treasure trove of amazing licks that you can learn from if you are an ambitious beginner or a intermediate/advanced player. No wasted space, just bar after bar of licks. I am a big fan of the "Nashville" style of playing and Daniel's book is full of great examples.
Watch his Youtube stuff and here you have similar all tabbed out for you.
As with ANY instructional material it's "value" is how well it matches you abilities. Books that can speak to where you are musically and draw a road map that's challenging yet within grasp hard to find. I have a bunch of guitar books and feel lucky to get one small snippet of useful information from each. Not disparaging the books per se but my interest an abilities seem to fail to match up very well in general.
But with Daniel Donato's book I am over the moon! EXACTLY what I've been working on and a fresh approach. Danial focuses on a simple pathway approach and slowly expands; lets you figure out how to apply. If you know how to transpose a lick or passage from A to G you'll be fine with this book.
It's far from a be all end all book but seems to distill some information I was struggling with in other books. I have been working through Levi Clay's (Country Guitar Method Compilation) books but was getting slowed down by his over focus. Excellent books but long term learning. Daniels is set up where you should be able to get the gist of most of it in days or weeks and spend the rest of your life applying.
I like the way Daniels book is set up. Often we get TAB with notation above and they fail to connect the TAB notes so is it a triplet or what...gotta check the notation. Donato's book skips the notation and notates the TAB. I like the notation because with a little experience it's easier to see how many steps between notes which is important. Tab doesn't provide this visually... but in this case it is not needed.
The video is cool! Daniel has an interesting personality! Real enthusiastic with intelligence well beyond his years as is his playing. Seems like a great guy and into teaching.
I think it would be a good book for anyone who has the basics down, understands major and pentatonic scales and CAGED system and how chords and triads are found across the fretboard.
