I use these boots 5 days a week 10 hours a shift in the harshest conditions on the border of South Texas.
The summers here are killer hot and humid. I tend to sweat alot from my feet and these boots keep my feet cooler and drier than any other boot I've tried.
During Winter it's very wet, muddy and the terrain is very challenging at times but I have no problem going through it all with these boots due to them being waterproof and the tread being non slip vibram material.
My previous pair of these Danner Tachyon GTX boots lasted me a year before I bought these which is actually amazing considering how much abuse they went through.
I did not treat my last pair with any type of leather preserver, just an ocassional kiwi boot shine. I noticed after a while that the boots in the crease that develops in the toe portion from walking cracked a small bit and the toe separated from the sole on the front a little. I was able to repair the front with super glue but was unable to fix the cracking from the side which eventually allowed water to leak into the boot.
This time around I treated the leather with sno seal and so far so good. Hopefully this will prevent the cracking a year from now.
Overall, these are great boots for any type of hardcore hiking or trekking. If your looking for a light weight alternative to your danner Acadia or Fort Lewis duty boot, you have to give these a try.

I purchased 4 different sets of boots to replace the crappy Reebok Response boots I purchased on Amazon. I took all the pairs into the office to get opinions from my co-workers, and the Danners were, by far, the favorite. One of the guys I work with liked them so much that he is getting himself a pair too.
They really feel like you're wearing tennis shoes/sneakers. I put the Danners on one foot and my tennis shoes on the other, and I couldn't tell a difference between the two.
The upper part of the boot is mostly the Gore-tex fabric, and reminded me of laving up some Converse All-Stars. They're easy to lace, and unlace, but the laces don't really hold too well when tied. I have to double tie them otherwise they come undone. There is not much protection to be offered by the boot, and they don't offer much ankle support, but that doesn't matter for my intended use.
The only thing that could be made better is the insole, it's very thin. I put Superfeet insoles in all my shoes, so the cheapo one in these doesn't matter to me. I still give the boots 5 stars because they're so dang comfortable.
First Note: I usually wear a double wide shoe, this only came in single wide, but fits okay. It was tight at first but has broken in well so far. The boots took a hard splash of road water while riding and didn't get wet. They are incredibly light for their durability and feel. Only possible drawback is low traction on the sole tread. On the other hand, the low profile tread probably makes it more comfortable for everyday use and I'm not planning any regular muddin'.
These boots have NO ankle support and no arch support or cushion in the sole. I would recommend removing the included insoles an adding a set of gel insoles for comfort and support.

The best Danner boots I have ever owned. I've worn Acadia, Kinetic, and Striker Torrent 45. The Tachyon ranks in at #1 and the Torrent 45 a close second.Published 7 days ago by Matthew S.
