I've been so obsessed with finding the perfect hiking/backpacking boots that also can be used as sort of city shoes while traveling. After reading up so many reviews and articles, I decided these are the winner. I couldn't decide on sizing based on mixed reviews, so I ordered 6.5 and 7 and tried them both. I wear size 7 usually for most of shoes. For running and hiking, I get 7.5 sometimes depends on brands (Merrell, Asics). I have somewhat typical Asian feet, wide-ish and flat. My true bare feet size is 6.5. With knowing these 'leather' boots need break-in period, I could tell 6.5 was too tight right away. I wore them inside the house for couple of hours and my feet started being numb. I tested the same way with size 7, and it felt right. The boots shape looks like it becomes narrower towards the toe, so my widest part of foot is slightly too tight, but hopefully when I break these in it won't be a problem. Even thought the vintage inspired red flat laces were the thing for these boots, the style wasn't quite working for me so I changed them up with the gold & tan laces from Danner and now I love the looks so much better. Since I'm still in the middle of breaking it in period, I should update the review later cause I'm still not 100% sold on using these for real hiking. Hopefully it works versatile like that. I'll report you all back later when I walk a trail or two.

    Like many others, when I was thinking about dropping (lots of) money for these (super adorable) hiking boots, I read every review out there about fit, etc. I have a wider front foot, puffy (?) toes, and a narrow heel. This means a lot of times shoes will rub on the inner ball of my foot, my heels slips, and I need room for my toes to spread out (the long, flat shape of some dress shoes are awful for me!). I mostly wear Salomons for this reason (snowboarding boots, trail runners) but wanted a pair of boots that I could also wear around town, while traveling, etc.

    I'm a pretty true size 6 and read that Danner recommends going a half size down (probably for folks who want to wear this mostly for fashion?). I plan on taking these puppies on lots of hikes through the Sierras and my first backpacking solo later this summer... so I actually ordered a 6.5 (gasp!). Usually hiking shoes order a full size up so I took into account that everyone said they run big, and that I have a wider foot (and, okay, Amazon had a 6.5 but not a 6 in stock at that time). **They fit perfectly!** A little roomy and stiff at first but after taking them on a steep uphill hike in Yosemite, I was so thankful for the reviews that pushed me to buy a 6.5 instead of a 6 (so I thought I'd return the favor!). The Airthotic insoles help on the downhills and I had almost no toe jamming on the way down. There was a bit of tenderness on the side of my foot from breaking them in but none of the crazy Achilles rubbing and band-aids needed like others.

    They are, not surprisingly, heavier than trail runners but I love the look and feel of them. They actually inspire me to go outdoors for hikes around the city.

    Bonus that they are **made in the USA (Portland, in fact!)** and can be re-soled when the Vibram bottoms wear out, meaning you get to keep a beautifully broken-in shoe and minimize waste from your outdoor adventures!

    All is good and I definitely recommend these boots!

    I bought these boots because my husband and I planned a trip out to Utah and Arizona to go hiking. After reading some reviews I decided to buy a half size bigger. Good thing I did because they fit great! I will say this, you have to break them in. I wore them around before my trip for a few hours everyday for 2 weeks. When I first wore them I got a blister on my right Achilles heel from the friction of the boot. However, it healed and once I bought thick wool socks (over the ankle ones) and put moleskin on areas I thought could be affected, I was totally fine. There was no rubbing and no cuts/blisters. I wore them on a 7.5 mile hike and my feet were comfortable and fine the whole time.

    These boots are lovely and very well made. I received a ton of compliments on our trip. On our hike some guy yelled out "Danner boots rock!" Highly recommend. I am pretty sure these boots will last me for many years.

    I can't even begin to tell you how amazing these boots are! I've never spent this kind of money on shoes before, but I'll tell you that I'd do it again for these boots! First of all, they are freakin cute! I get SO many complements on them. Everywhere I've worn them I have people ask me about them. Next they are so comfortable! I recently wore them on a 21 mile trek and they were amazing! I didn't feel like they were too heavy and clunky at all. They did start rubbing my Achilles' tendon a little, but I put mole skin on as soon as I felt that it may cause a blister and it was all good. When I got home I put some leather conditioner on them and cleaned them up and they look as good as new again. I am a true 8 and debated whether to go down 1/2 a size like recommended. I decided to try the 8 and they actually fit wonderfully! I'm glad I made that choice! I'm definitely sold on Danners. For fashion and smart footwear!

    I love the look and the quality. Unfortunately, I had to return due to size. Bought these for my wife, we read the reviews and saw some people mention they ran big, others said they were fine so (considering she's a solid 8.5) we stayed with the 8.5. They were huge. Tried them with thicker socks but it didn't matter. These are exceptionally well made hiking boots and made in the USA (which I love) but we'll have to try again with an 8... or maybe even 7.5?! Good luck.

    Love these boots. They're adorable and very good quality. I wore them on a trip to Norway where we were walking in the city and hiking in the mountains. They were great for all activities.
    I usually wear a size 10 but ordered a size 9 based on the Danner website recommendation and other reviews on this site. They fit perfectly.

    The only downside is that it takes about 2 weeks of constantly wearing them to break them in. But after they're broken in, they're comfy and durable, lasting for multiple years I am assuming.
    In addition, I find them to be a little heavier than typical hiking boots. However, they are quality leather and are very supportive, which I assume adds to the weight of the boot. This is something to keep in mind, especially if you are considering wearing them for long periods of time (or long hikes).

    Bought these for my wife and shipped to Australia. Arrived before time and as expected of new boots. The size is perfect (measured foot with a ruler to attain the correct sizing). My wife has worn them non stop for the last 3 months. They were comfortable straight out of the box and after 90+ days of wear they show no signs of manufactured fault. Would highly recommend.

    About the sizing. I normally wear between a 7.5 and 8, depending on the brand. After carefully reading through the reviews and following the size chart on the Danner website, I initially ordered size 7.5. They were too big. A huge thank you to Amazon for their amazing customer service. Within a week, the exchange was complete and a size 7 arrived on my doorstep. The size 7 fits perfectly lengthwise. They are a little snug across the top and this pair will take a break-in period. I am totally ok with that.

    The boots themselves are just lovely. Quality. Finely crafted. I expect to wear these boots for many, many years to come.

    Love love love these boots. I am usually an 8.5 or 9, but took the Danner website advice and ordered down, so got an 8 and 8.5. I ended up going with the 8. I have worn these on a few short hikes and around the yard to break them in, and as other reviewers mentioned, they rub on the ankle a bit until they are broken in. My order did come with the insoles and in an official Danner box. The price on these was great - I've been scouting for these boots for over a year, but the Canadian prices I found on other websites were always $500-600. I was very happy to get them for almost what they are in US$. Love the way these boots look, very comfortable so far, and I can't wait to take them on a longer adventure.

I didn't notice anything that stated these were seconds, however I find it hard to believe that the eyelet placement on the right boot wasn't noticed by quality control. I'm not one to return things but decided I would. Although they were a fraction of the cost of buying them directly from the company, they are still an expensive boot. When I looked them up again to review the return procedure I noticed that if I wanted to re-order them the price had gone up by $90. I thought long and hard, ensured that the eyelet placement wasn't going to create a comfort/fit/quality issue and decided it wasn't worth an additional $90 and kept them.
