"Danville Horror, is the third book in her Pat Wyatt Series, but the author skillfully weaves enough of the background story into the plot to allow this volume to be read as a stand-alone story... This is a fast-paced and very entertaining shifter novel that I had trouble putting down. Del's characters are finely crafted, and watching as they interact is a treat in itself." - Readers' Favorite

Pat faces past traumas, mean girls, crazy exes, and step mama drama in this latest book. All of which she handles with the help of her friends and her sassy attitude. There are several plot turns that caught me completely off guard, and that is fantastic. Her friend circle grows to include childhood friends, and per usual Laura Del writes remarkable friendships and characters that you wish were in your life, too!
*I received a free copy of this book after asking to beta read for the author (seriously could not wait after the last book ended to find out what happened next)!
This is Laura Del's third Pat Wyatt novel and it is now my favorite. Pat is at an all-time physical and emotional low when she does her familial duty and shows up to be matron of honor for her father's very young, very pretty bride-to-be. Pat expects a face sore from lots of fake smiling and the creepy discomfort of running into her tarty sister (now dating Pat's devilish and probably insane ex-husband). What she gets is a whole lot more complicated...and dangerous.
I'm trying hard not to spoil the plot, which is hard, because so much happens. No one is quite who or what they seem, even people Pat has known her whole life and believes she knows everything about. At the same time as Pat deals with this wedding and the complicated personalities involved, she's trying to come to terms with the situation that has separated her, perhaps forever, from the man-wolf she loves. Though, that too, proves to be not quite what it seemed in book two.
Reading the previous books, I sometimes had trouble understanding the choices Pat made. It often seemed like she was looking to ruin her life or get knocked down. Like she had no sense of self preservation. This time around, we get lots of flashes into Pat's past and finally experience some of the events that have propelled her actions and reactions. Along with her usual mix of sarcasm, bravado, and general good intentions, Pat has a vulnerability in this book that is appealing and makes you her instant ally.
I had a great time revisiting old friends--all of whom show new sides. Especially Pat's father. The new additions to the cast are also fabulous. My favorite is Mortimer, a completely delightful Irish vampire. There's also an adorable Husky puppy who manages to steal every scene he's in. And, no, he is not ONLY a cute puppy.
DANVILLE HORROR provides a wild and funny good time with just enough drama and chills to keep things real. Can't wait to see where the author takes Pat and her ever-growing gang of misfits next.
