Mr Darcy's Christmas carol by Carolyn Eberhart
As name suggest this first story is based on Dicken's and Austen's books; Darcy is visited first by the ghost of his father and then by the 3 ghost of Christmas that will help him correct the mistakes of his life. A nice adaptation, though a bit slow to be truly enjoyable.
Christmas present by Amanda grange
This one had more of an Austen feel. I liked the way it is written and it is a very sweet story. A family reunion with the old beloved characters. By far my favorite of the three.
A Darcy Christmas by Sharon Lathan
This one moves from a first sad Christmas of a lonely Darcy to several Christmas reunions as the years go by, first years of marriage, kids and more ( including one Christmas that left me a bittersweet taste )..
It was not bad but for me it was a bit long and uneventful; nothing REALLY happens besides the time passing by.
I liked the fact that children and grandchildren of the Darcys and Bingleys were involved in the stories. They were amusing and exciting to read of the antics of children of the day. They were portrayed in a way that you knew they should be portrayed and matched their parents looks and personalities.
I read this a year and half ago and just re-read it so I thought I would give my review on it. Enjoyable read and my hats off to the authors for doing a great job!
The stories are well written and bring you right into the Thoughts of our Mr. Darcy and how it might have been.
I'd have had much more respect for this author if they had created some original characters of their own, and their own original plot. Give me a bad plot and characters, which are the original creation of the author, any day over 2 classics that have been smashed together.
My recommendations --
-- get the original books and read them;
-- get another christmas book that is all the original creation of the author;
-- don't pay money for this book.
If you're curious, and you can get it for free, all well and good. But don't spend your money on it. There are lots of great Christmas books out there. This isn't one of them. Not by a long shot.
I especially like the intimate family bedroom accounts with the mother, father and children and the way William finds Elizabeth both loving and desirable when pregnant and nursing the babies.
Vert Well Done!
I did not read the other 2 authors as I did not want to dissuade my reading from Sharon/s story line.
