Heartbreaking and beautiful! Dare Me is a MUST READ!
This is the first book of Rebecca Shea's that I've read, and I wasn't sure what to expect, and I was blown away with this story. I fell in love with Saige and Holt's story, and my heart broke over and over again during this read. The prologue alone had me in tears, and I knew I was in for something totally unexpected, so I took a deep breath, and dove into this book and am so happy that I read this beautiful story!
Saige Phillips has had a rough life, she's experienced great pains and has a hard time letting go. When she gets the job of a lifetime in Chicago she takes it, and never expected her life to change even more. She's settling into her job, and has made some great friends in her coworkers, so when they go out for drinks and play a simple game of truth or dare, she wasn't prepared for the dare she was dealt.
Holt Hamilton is the co-owner of the company Saige works for, and also one of the most eligible bachelors in Chicago. He has a secret, and as the reader you pick up on in pretty quickly, but his secret doesn't stop him from perusing Saige and falling for her, even though it should.
I thought after the prologue the tears would stop, and they did for a while, I laughed, I swooned, and I fell in love, and then the tears came again. I wanted to hate Holt at times, but I couldn't find it in my heart to do it. I understood why he did what he did, but I think he should have come clean a bit sooner, it may have saved some of the heartache for both him and Saige.
Dare Me is a beautifully written story, and even though you may have read books like this before, trust me, you need to read this one. The way the story flows, the characters, everything about this book is flawless. I started it last night and while working today I couldn't stop wishing that I was done with work so I could get back into this book ASAP and find out what happens. I definitely encourage anyone who isn't afraid of a little bit of tears, a lot of sexiness, and an all around great story to pick up your copy of Dare Me by Rebecca Shea today!
I loved this story. Loved the dual POV's told in 1st person. I loved Holt's guilty actions and good intentions...how he initially hires Saige for a job as a way to help her. But his feelings unintentionally becomes more and he cannot let her go. Loved that! This story delivered exactly what I like in my romance reading. A good strong plot not overwhelmed with sex (even though I love sex!)...Hot sexual moments told tastefully well. Adult language at a minimum yet present at the appropriate moments....strong characters....and great supporting characters. Great attention to details and descriptions throughout; from architectural, to scenic, to fashion and styles, to physical and personality details...Ms. Shea doesn't scrimp. Great controversy and angst. Great drama and turmoil. It was easy to connect to each protagonist making the story addicting and hard to put down.
Best Line; "Sometimes in loving us, people hurt us....but it doesn't mean they don't love us".
Oh man, Rebecca NAILED it with this book. From page 1 I was sucked in and I couldn’t put it down, I was sad when I had to sleep. Saige and Holt completely captured me, heart and soul. I didn’t want their story to end. I loved their story and their love story. It was unique to them, sad at times, but perfectly perfect for them and the world Rebecca created for them. It was just awesome.
Saige Phillips is a fresh college grad from North Dakota who has landed a job in the city that has been calling her since she had to leave as child. She loves the city of Chicago, but it also comes with memories of her childhood and triggers to her nightmares related to the reason why her world was flip upside down when she was 13. After landing an amazing sell at her job, she goes to dinner with her coworkers where life will never be the same. It all started with a dare, a dare that will change her life and the creation of the best hashtag ever.
Holt Hamilton has it all- money, power, free disposable of women and a loving family. He hires Saige for undisclosed reason but when he meets her he wasn’t prepared for the instant attraction/chemistry. He finally gets his chance with her after a dare, but will it all last? Does Holt have a secret that could destroy everything they have together?
I loved their story, I seriously couldn’t get enough of it. I wanted to smack Holt halfway through for things he was keeping things to himself, but when he finally owns up to the situation what he does to woo Saige is perfect.
