Marcy Walker gained sole custody of her 15-year old sister, Hannah, after their father passed away 8 months before. Hannah's Mom, Lilah, has been absent and hasn't been part of her life for many years. Now she's shown back up and is showing interest in gaining custody of Hannah back, making Marcy wonder what her real agenda is.
Jaxon Prescott is a star pitcher for the Miami Eagles, but he's also known as a playboy. He's not one that is interested in settling down after being burned in a relationship years earlier. He's recently made some not so great decisions and he's been in the media far too much for the team executives and his agent/PR representatives liking.
With Marcy being besties with Jaxon's sister, Bri, she's been around often, so when the two run into each other at Jaxon's brother's wedding, no one thinks twice. It's not until the next morning when Marcy is photographed by the paparazzi doing the walk of shame from Jaxon's house that Lilah wants to use that against her in the custody suit and it's not going to make things better for Jaxon either on the PR front. When the two agree that a marriage of convenience might be the best solution, will they go through with it and more importantly, will it end up being more real than either of them could have imagined?
I've always enjoyed Carly Phillips books and this one is no exception. The characters were great, it moved at a quick pace and was an easy, yet fun read. Marcy and Jaxon had amazing chemistry and I liked how Marcy, Jaxon and Hannah all grew throughout the book.
I'd highly recommend picking up this title!
She’s about to lose custody of her half-younger sister, to the mother who deserted her. The only family she has left.
Jax Prescott and Macy Walker both have a something they need another person to help solve a problem. He needs to clean up his playboy reputation to avoid being traded to another team. She needs a husband to provide a family environment to keep her only family, marriage of convenience seems to be a great solution.
Never in his wildest dreams did Jax ever think he’d find himself wanting to actually make the fake marriage real. But spending time with Macy and wanting to fix all her problems and protect her from being hurt was new to him but it felt so right.
Macy didn’t want to fall in love with him but it was so easy, now that she has can she risk it all to tell him?
Can these two admit to the feelings they both are having to make a future that both have come to realize means so much?
You’ll root for them to have their happily ever after and it doesn’t hurt that Carly brings her usual steamy hot factor to this duo. You’ll want it to not end and fall in love with this love story so easily.
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure how this whole story was going to pan out. But I loved the arc of their story. I knew there was going to be bumps in the road along the way. It was fun to see them navigate this road they decided to take. These two were definitely stronger together. Loved every turn of the page.

Jaxon Prescott. star pitcher for the Eagles Baseball team, has found himself in trouble ... yet again. Unfortunately, being splashed over social media is not exactly the position he needs to be in now. Told he should show some maturity and think of settling down, Jaxon decides to rid himself of his playboy image and find a bride ... albeit a fake one.
Macy Walker, Graphic and Website Designer, is guardian to her fifteen-year-old half sister, Hannah. She now finds herself in a custody battle with Lilah, Hannah's mother, a woman who all but deserted her daughter five years earlier. How is Macy going to convince the court that she has the ability to provide a stable lifestyle for Hannah? Would she have a better chance if she was married? Where would she find a man ... a groom of convenience?
From the moment Jaxon And Macy renew their friendship, the chemistry between them sparks, then ignites. Their relationship develops at the perfect pace as they go from friends to lovers. Admittedly, they find it difficult to keep their hands to themselves, but this is a part of their magic, along with their often humourous banter. The support and protectiveness they show to one another, only increased the feelings they found difficult to share. Will their fake marriage become a marriage of reality?
If you enjoy reading Carly Phillips' stories about the Dares and their extended family, you'll definitely fall in love with Jaxon and Macy. It was sexy, fun, light-hearted and romantic story that had me both sighing and also squirming in my seat. Even though it is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the entire series.
