Editorial Reviews

Review

"I liked Daredevils because I am not a fan of reading and it was one of the only books that kept me interested throughout the entire novel. I also liked all the descriptions. It put a very clear picture in my head. I was able to imagine everything that was happening, especially the part where Alex fell. I also liked this novel because it was about hockey, and it also had a lot of twists and turns so it kept me guessing."--Mathew, 15 years old
"I enjoyed Daredevils because it had a good storyline and plot and also dealt with real life isssues such as bullying, peer pressure, and getting along with others. I thought it was very well writtten and would recommend it to readers of my age group."--Luke, 14 years old
"My class read your book and thought is was cool. I liked Tara and Lizzie. Lizzie was awesome. I can't believe she was on a boys' hockey team! That was weird.  Well, it was your imagination, not mine! I liked Alex, too, because he was a good friend to Lizzie. I have a friend like Alex and I like him even better than any of the girls in my class. He'll never say stuff about me that's not true like some other kids in my class. He's my best friend."--Katie, 13 years old

From the Author

Daredevils is the first book in my Northview Tales Series, which includes Hello, my name is Emily and Charlie's Song. Lizzie, the main character, was based on a former student who was bullied by kids (and parents!) because she played on a boys' hockey team when there weren't any organized girls' teams in her community. The book's tragic incident at Niagara Falls was based on what had happened to someone I knew; he fell into the Niagara Gorge while hanging around the falls with his friends. Teachers across the country tell me that boys are drawn to Daredevils more than other titles in their school libraries. The boys like the danger, the cliffhangers and especially the hockey scenes in the book. As a life-long fan of hockey, I loved writing about it!
