Product Description
When young opera singer Betty takes over the leading role in an avant-garde presentation of Verdi's Macbeth, she triggers the madness of a crazed fan who repeatedly forces her to watch the brutal murders of her friends. Will her recurring childhood nightmare hold the key to the identity of this psychopath, or does an even more horrific evil lay waiting in the wings? Legendary horror maestro Dario Argento delivers a savagely stunning thriller featuring some of the most shocking sequences of his entire career, and this version soars to horrific new heights with a dazzling 2K scan.

The film follows, Betty an young opera singer who takes the world by storm after the another opera singer, Mara Cecova got inquired when a car stuck her. After finishing the show of "Macheth" an crazed fan begins stalking Betty and forces her to watch the people she knows being murdered by having her tied up and needles taped on her eye leads. However after the killer is finish he'll cut the rope leaving Betty alone to untie herself. She becomes terrified of when the killer is gonna strike next.
The opera director, Marco comes up with a idea to catch the killer. Earlier, the killer broke into the costume room and tears Betty's dress she wore, while he's doing this the ravens break out of their cage which he kills 3 of them as the ravens attack him. The owner states that ravens don't forget anyone who makes them angry. So during a opera show they release the ravens and attacks a police officer, Alan who turns out to be killer as he looses his left eye.
After trying to escape Alan captures Betty and ties her up to a chair. Alan tells her that, Betty's mother forced him to rape and kill women then have sex. After murdering her, he's been forcing her to watch the death of her friends to release the souls of the suffering. Alan sets the room on fire and Betty is able to break free again after Alan gave Betty his gun allowing her to shot the rope.
Betty and Marco are somewhere in the country side getting ready for some big opera when the TV that's on states the killer, Alan wasn't dead and used another body that was burnt to fake his death. Alan kills Marco and goes to finish of Betty but she tricks Alan thinking that she's turned on by the murders and wants to run away with him. However once Alan has his back turned, Betty grabs a rock and smacks it on his head when a squad of police and soldiers show up arresting Alan. Betty lies on the grass and enjoys the nature around her knowing she is finally safe.
I find it odd how quickly Betty is claim and able to continue working after the death of two of her friends. Also the whole reason why the Alan was doing this doesn't make sense. Was it true what he was really saying or did Alan just make it up as excuse to kill people. If the story was written better and filled in the answers the viewers want to know then I might have liked it.
And the film is such a Masterpiece visually that I cannot help but re-watch it to engage in its exquisite absurdity. The actress is beautiful, the music is beautiful and the opera scenes are beautiful.
My only gripe is I knew who the killer was from close to the beginning, but that's probably because I always assume everybody is the killer in a Giallo movie.

No, DA's 'Opera' is one of my favorites. I like the way he uses the camera and incidental music like first person perspectives spiraling down staircases, oh and that bit where he shows handing across the dagger and then repeats it - nice touches!! Unfortunetly, like with so many of his films though, the ending seems a little rushed and odd?? Other than that, it is well worth checking out, especially if you are not familiar with his films.
It's a pity he didn't do his third installment of the 'Three Mothers' trilogy around this time as most of his films did degenerate from here on, with one exception in his film 'Trauma' which mixes Italian and American horror film values.
Footnote:- Be careful however in purchasing the film by it's proper title 'Opera' as invariably they are NTSC only; and yes, I did get caught out with this on an earlier purchase!!
If you like Dario Argento's stuff don't miss this one.
