Let’s just say I’ve read a lot on Ms Grant’s books and never have I been disappointed! This new series, The Reapers, is an off shoot of The Dragon Kings. A series which I love to death!! This book is a quick read and not a very complex story. But it’s wonderful.
The Reapers who are Fae themselves, are the executioners of the Fae, Light and Dark,. If they do something evil or illegal the Reapers are there to carry out justice. This book is about Baylon and Jordyn. As soon as they see each other they know they were destined for each other. They feel it in every fiber of their being! They can’t keep their hands off each other. Baylon knows he’s not allowed to love someone. But… According to Death, who is the founder of the Reapers, no relationships or entanglements are allowed. The last Reaper who fell in love, centuries ago, went wrong and Death killed the Reaper’s lover. The Reaper then turned on his Reaper Brothers and killed them. So, no relationships allowed. After this is when Baylon and his brothers were recruited by death to be Reapers.
The Dark Fae are after all the half human, half Fae to kill them. Jordyn is just that. So the Reapers protect her and use her to draw out the Dark Fae to execute them. There are some really heated love scenes between Baylon and Jordyn. Very spicy!! I’m crushin’ on Baylon! The other Reapers sound kinda hot too. Talin, Kyran, Eoghan, Fintan, Daire, and the leader Cael. Can’t wait for their books!!
I was given and ARC of this book by NetGalley for an honest review.

Ok! I’m soooo happy I was wrong about how this book was gonna go. I just knew the Reapers were going to have to kill all the half-fae and it would be a blood bath. However, I should have known that Ms. Grant wouldn’t have caused such a mess and Cael would go see Erith (AKA Death). And, boy, was she ticked off that someone sent Cael orders that weren’t from her. There would be hell to pay for that little treasonous mistake.

I really liked Baylon and Jordyn. They were a perfect couple and the book is short enough there was not any angst. I also liked Cael, Kyran, Talin, Eoghan (don’t know how to pronounce his name, though,) Daire, and was up in the air about Fintan, since he seemed to be without feelings and would kill anyone he’s ordered to, without question, but he turned out to be as good as the rest of them.

I admit I did cry when all those darks came to Jordyn’s flat again, and what happened, happened.

Another great book by DG and I never get tired of reading them. I’m happy with the new Reaper series.

Some great sexual attraction and greater sex.

Donna Grant has a new series that is thus far loosely tied into her magical Scotland books that we all love so much. The Reapers have been mentioned in her most recent Dark Kings book Passion Ignites. Her Reapers are watching both the Dragons and Warriors, but at this time they are not interacting or working together.
The Reapers consist of both Light and Dark Fae. These seven men have been recruited by Death to be judge, jury, and executioner of the Fae. They exist only to their small group. They are myth, legends, and tales told to the Fae to keep them in line. No one should know of their existence until it is time for them to mete out their brand of justice. Their orders come directly from Death.
Readers enter this new world as Cael (the Reaper leader) is giving the newest assignment to his men. In an unprecedented event every man questions Death’s wishes. Never one to question Death all the men embark on this assignment yet they can’t seem to follow through. While none of them follow through Baylon does the extreme opposite and actually defies one of Death’s rules, repeatedly.
Since Dark Alpha’s Claim is a new book in a new series readers are introduced to a group of new characters that live by a whole new set of rules. This is done is in 163 pages. It was a lot to take in especially with a couple meeting and falling in love along with a big battle scene. For all that happened I truly needed more page time. I enjoyed the world. I know deep in my heart I will enjoy the next books in this series more. I have a good feel of the characters and the world so maybe that will allow more for the couple and their romance with the next story.
Based on the blurb I was under the impression this series would be first person point of view from the hero. It is in fact third person from both Jordyn and Baylon.

Spoiler Alert….
.
.First time Donna Grant reader...
I clicked "full of surprises" because, for once the female isn't weak or hysterical, she already had an idea of the paranormal, and accepted it when faced with the reality.
The other thing, The male wasn't all "don't touch my female!!" about his friends around her, Protective without being a control freak.
.. I didn't feel lost, or like I have to go back and read a prequel series. …
…. A few grammar and spelling mistakes.

3.5/5 Stars- This review was originally posted on Goldilox and the Three Weres

This new series involves seven Reapers aka elite Fae assassins, with extremely different and intriguing personalities and skills. Each Reaper is presented with full character descriptions and hints of mystery as to why they act or react the way they do. I want each book that will be in this series so I can find out each of their backstories because I'm intrigued. Most of all, I want to know more about Cael and Eoghan but all of them hold my interest.

I enjoyed reading the start of this new spin-off series! This story wasn't what I was expecting and it was more of a set-up book to introduce us to the Reapers since we got a few hints about them in Passion Ignites. I really liked the characters and I'm attached to them already! I didn't even mind the insta-lust between Baylon and Jordyn. And while I liked Baylon, Jordyn is the one that stole my attention and I ended up loving her by the end. She's one fierce heroine!

As much as I liked this, the pacing felt a bit off and I think it has to do with the length of this story. Things would have been a bit clearer if there had been a few more pages. Overall, I really enjoyed this. I'm intrigued to read more in this series! It has a lot of potential and it just adds to the Dark Kings books. I like learning about things from the Reapers's point of view because it's so different from that of the Dragon Kings and Rhi. It also explains some of the things that have been happening like who has been following Rhi.

I will mention one more thing though even though it has no bearing on my enjoyment of this book. This ebook needed to have a little more TLC in the editing department. There were several significant typos in it that would have been caught with one more read through, I believe. It wasn't enough to pull me out of the story but the number of typos was significant enough to catch my attention.
