Love, love, love Erith (AKA Death.) She is just awesome. I wish she was in the books more than she is.
I like the desire that started right off the bat between Kyran and River, subtle on River’s part but not so much on Kyran’s. And I liked that River was a good fighter instead of standing behind Kyran and letting him protect her. I really hate a damsel in distress.
Battles, battles and more battles. The dark, and Bran, never stand a chance. I’ll be glad when someone kills that murderous piece if crapola!
I’m so happy that DG came up with this new series but they’re over with so soon. But then, these books could be 500 pages and they’d be too short, as far as I’m concerned.
And there were a few little swearwords but the F-BOMB was only used 7 times. Ok by me, but I know how some of you are.
Welcome back to a world filled with Demons and Dragons, Fey and Fairytales, gods and Warriors, Druids and magic.. in short welcome back to the world of Donna Grant. In her latest incarnation her Reaper Series, we find the Fey are battling more than each other. They are battling for survival, not that they know it.
The Reapers have been around almost as long as the Fey, as a matter of fact they are select Fey that have been offered a chance to serve Death and in a rather strange way, justice. They are to remain unseen and only called upon when things are truly dire. They both judge and executioner of the Fey. Called upon to restore balance... It's a dark time in the world and the Reapers have been called forth once more. Only there is so much more going on. It's not just that the Fey have overstepped themselves that's bad enough. But there's someone out there set to destroy the Reapers themselves. Now they must find out who and why...
River is half fae, set on finding her family history and preserving it all the while knowing that she has a death sentence on her. Her entire family has been hunted by the fae. Destroyed one by one until she is all that is left. If and when she has a daughter, she too is doomed to die. So when a group of Fae show up at her library trying to steal borrow her books. And yes these are the books that were her family legacy. River is not inclined to help. But she realizes that they are going to take the books with or without her.. make a choice. Realizing that she is drawn to one of the Fae and not just any Fae but a DARK Fae, River is appalled and yet...

I was kind of meh about the first book in this novella series even though I liked it. But I really connected with this series with this one! I loved it! The plot is fun and unique! And it stands on it's own while being seamlessly intertwined with the events in the Dark Kings series. Everything felt new and refreshing while still being connected to what's happening in the other series.
One of the things I've liked learning about the Reapers is how Death is portrayed. First off, Death is a woman and powerful Fae. But she's not the grim personification that I've come to expect when Death is a character and I like that she has her own band of enforcers. The thing that has intrigued me from the very beginning is that the Reapers are composed of both Light and Dark Fae. Especially with how the majority of the Dark are portrayed as evil and selfish beings in the Dark Kings series. The fact that the Reapers work as a cohesive unit despite the backstories of each character whether they be Light or Dark is refreshing. And I'm glad to see that we got to learn more about one of the Dark Reapers in this novella.
I really liked Kyran. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I wasn't expecting him to be as sweet and loyal as he was. I apparently made some stereotypes for Dark Fae while reading the books. Whoops! And as much as I loved Kyran, I adored River! Warrior scholar trope for the win! I loved her and how strong she was because of her backstory. And I really liked Kyran and River together! In my opinion they definitely had better chemistry than Baylon and Jordyn.
I'm so happy that this one seems to have had been edited more thoroughly for typos than the first book, but it still had a few.Read more ›
River White is a librarian with a secret. She is half fae. River has been collecting books that her family used to possess. She gets the library she works with to store them and keep them safe.
Kyran is a Reaper. They are not widely known. Most fae thin that they are a myth. The Reapers are sent by Death to do her brand of justice. The dark fae have been killing off he half fae they come across.
Kyran and River meet and there is an instant attraction. Kyran needs the books River has, he also needs to protect her from the dark fae who are killing her kind off. Can Kyran and the other Rapers keep her safe? Will Kran and River still want each other when secrets come out?
Cannot wait to read the next book in this series!!!
