This novel opens with successful couple Len and Olivia Bowden moving into their new home along with their young daughter Kennedy. The home is a beautiful old Victorian that Olivia just had to have and Len wants his wife to be happy so....they buy the home and hope to live a happy life. Problems begin when there is a knock on the door the first morning they are in the home... a strange creepy old man makes a strange demand to Len....leave the house in 3 days or else!! From the moment Len closes the door after the strange encounter with the old goon, this book takes the reader on roller coaster ride of suspense that I did not want to get off of! I did not want to put this book down, but work, school and family life called. So I read this book starting Saturday afternoon and just finished today (Tuesday). I have already purchased another Kindle title by this author and I am sure it won't be the last.
This book was wonderful! Full of suspense and the unexpected with a touch of the supernatural! The author has a great imagination!! 5 stars!! ***The prologue has left me with some questions about its relevance to the story, but the book is so good you won't mind***
Thanks for another great book Brandon.
But as usual all that glitters is definitely not gold in a Massey book. Hexs, the supernatural, Haitian voodoo all are a mystery and the very being of the Bowden’s new home. Their luck only seems to go from bad to worse when an elderly man shows up at their front door and warns the Bowdens they have exactly three days to leave HIS home or else…..
What happens in the three days and what will happen after the three days is up will take the reader on a scary and thrilling ride!
The GRID 10 rates Brandon Massey’s In The Dark a 3 1/2 stars out of 5!

Len and Olivia Bowden have finally purchased their dream home: a classic Victorian in an upscale historic Atlanta neighborhood. But they've hardly begun to unpack when the home's former owner knocks on the door, bluntly states the house was stolen from him, and gives them three days to leave or else. He utters some kind of weird chanting and makes odd hand gestures before Len shuts the door on him; and Len thinks: "Voudou? Nah, no such thing."
Regardless, secure in the knowledge that their purchase of this foreclosure was legal and aboveboard, the Bowdens ignore the old man. After that, I assume bad stuff started happening, but I quit reading at around page 80.
I didn't like either Len or Olivia: Len, because he came off as weak and whiny, and because he hid nekkid pictures of his college girlfriend (who was not Olivia, by the way) in his bottom desk drawer for later use. I'll leave it up to you to figure out how he intended to use them. Hint: he and Olivia hadn't had marital relations recently. I didn't like Olivia because she was short-tempered and dismissive of her husband. She acted like she thought he was stupid, AND she refused to tell him what she was afraid of when Len described the old man and his chanting gestures upon leaving the house.
Even without the weird stuff going on around them, I wouldn't hold out high hopes for the staying power of this marriage.
So, when I don't like either of the main characters, and the story isn't good enough to put up with unpleasant people, it's time to bail. And that's exactly what I did.
