As a person who has spent a large portion of their adult life walking with others through tragedy I was pleasantly surprised at the realism in the book. This isn't a fairy tale where everyone is smiling and happy at the end. The book confronted us with the realities of the world we live in, with just enough fantasy to be the spoonful of sugar we need to confront some difficulty truths in the world.
I look forward to the follow on books in the series to see how characters are changed, how they grow, and what new characters Ms. Colly has in the wings for her readers.
Too much in too little, too much story about demons in too little time...
I really detest when a writer cares more about the story arc than the romance , if this is just going to be a story arc about some mysterious demons wanting to take over vampire cities fine ,but don't call it a romance if you do...
Clean read, a few "passionate kisses" and thing else doesn't happen til the very end almost and then not even a single detail ...
Characters and histories and motivations are never really explained ,like why do vampires live in separate complete cities underground ? Why ? We are never told or the history behind it or the reason for almost anything, Soren was ok? Ish but for he was one of those lame applause male types the never really explains anything just expects the female just "understand" everything some how and is stupidly surprised when things go wrong and misunderstands happen...
Faith is almost stubbornly slow on her uptake and acceptance of Soren and her new life, and as bad as he is about explaining she is about asking questions...
These two were interminably slow w/each other as a couple of sick turtles moving through a January snow , Faith was too reactionary, too untrusting of Soren ,especially for such a slow story ...
If your going to make the H and h this slow and hesitant towards each other , please make them both more interesting ,give them more depth and make the story longer ... ( sorry might have spoilers)
I never the love or a connection , very slow and plodding place no hurry to give Faith a clue or being them together ,then suddenly they are attacked, Soren mates her w/out telling her,sex happens off screen w/barely any mention and then h goes off to "save/rescue" her mate some how barefoot and clueless and clumsily gets him home...
Very clumsy , rushed and pathetic, 75% we are constantly told Soren is all big and bad warrior , then he's almost killed just handing himself over other vamps and his TSTL live mate saves him barefoot and clueless ....
No, this wasn't a romance, more about a clueless couple and mysterious demons...
Clean romance, a clean vamp. romance ? That really isn't ?
No Thanks ... my rating is two stars but 3 out I'd respect ...
