Tiffany Peebles has just gotten a job as an IT tech at a small OBGYN vampire clinic. Her dear friend, Christian is one of the doctors there. Their chemistry has been off the charts for many years, and they both know that eventually they will have to figure out how to define their relationship, especially since they will be working closely together. As if their relationship issues were not stressful enough, a series of miscarriages occur at the clinic, and the doctors scramble to figure out what is causing them before more deaths occur...
I accidentally read this one before the first book (Forever and a Night), but it ended up not being a problem. I was able to follow along well, and I had no problem feeling an investment and a love for the characters.
I really LOVED this book. It's quite long, but it was written well (despite the fact that the editing/proofreading could have been better) so I didn't become fatigued with reading it: I wanted to keep reading to find out what happened! I was truly fascinated in particular by the addition of faith into this book. Christian, Tiffany, and her family members talk about God, salvation, prayers, and faith in general throughout the book. This is something totally unique - I have never encountered a vampire book like this. Generally, vampires are treated as abominations in literature. In some places (like Buffy) they are actually demons that have inhabited the bodies of dead people. I love it when authors do unexpected things!
There were other things in the book also gave a fresh take on the genre - vampires are actually able to have children, they mate for life, and blood bonding between mates unlocks a few notable powers.
This story had romance, mystery, and intrigue! I was really on the edge of my seat as the book progressed. I kept second guessing myself, and I was surprised with how things turned out. The single aspect of this book that I didn't enjoy as much was the sex scenes. I really liked Christian and Tiffany's relationship in general, though!
I have the first book, so I will definitely be reading that one asap.
AWESOME job, Lana Campbell! <3
I really liked that Christian runs a medical practice which caters to pregnant vampires. It adds an original offshoot to the vampire-human romance genre with an added layer of action. The fact that this vampire is looking for a life mate was very romantic.
And Tiffany is no shy and retiring nerd. Granted she’s a tech geek, but she drives a red truck with a souped-up engine and isn’t afraid to floor it when warranted. She’s sassy, independent and complicated -- nursing some old wounds from her family and definitely not the vulnerable type.
A sudden suspicious illness leads Christian to go to drastic lengths to save Tiffany’s life. Instead of being happy about it. She’s beyond ticked off and mad enough to end his. Although in hindsight, considering what he did without permission her reaction is understandable. I’d be ticked off too.
Fireworks simmer between these two as they work on their differences and work together to try and solve a mystery impacting the health and safety of patients at the V Clinic.
The story unfolds from two POV’s which adds depth and dimension and heightens a reader’s understanding of why the doctor wants to go forward with this relationship and while the IT geek has doubts. Again the push and pull of this couple is intriguing and makes for a riveting read. The clever plot is full of twists and turns that should keep readers guessing.
I really enjoyed Tiffany and her ‘inter-species’ family and hope to see more of their exploits in future books. What a charming novel. Looking forward to the next installment.
Another wonder by Ms. Campbell. In this book, we get to watch Tiffany and Christian's relationship go through so many ups and downs, it might literally put theme parks out of business.
Tiffany is the crass and socially awkward daughter of Mia. Mia, of course, we meet in book one. This book (surprisingly to me) takes place 12 years after book one. I was not expecting such a jump in time. Tiffany is grown up yet not grown up mentally. Which tbh is one of the reasons this is a 4.5 instead of a 5*. I feel Tiffany has been allowed to behave badly publicly and privately for way too long. I get the reasoning a little but overall I dont feel its very realistic. I LOVE when Christian chewed her out for the waiting room incident. It was long over-do.
Christian of course is our wonderful country OB from book one. This is definitely a case of opposites attract and all that. I love me some Vampire action, love and all. Cannot wait to start 3. (which I will be doing as soon as I hit submit)
