This was fast-paced read, with plenty of action, romance and witty dialog. Dominic is at times, the monster he has become, and other times the most romantic and endearing character. The characters are well flushed out, and there is plenty of drama and action. A couple twists in the story makes it a great read. Looking forward to this story continuing.
I was totally captivated by the magnetism between Cassidy and Dominic. Right from the beginning, even through their push and pull attitudes, it was obvious they had a mutual sexual attraction and they just needed to learn how to gently lure the other in. Although he appears to be a cocky arrogant Frenchman, underneath, he has a very gentle soul that Cassidy can see. Although he tries to push her away for her own safety, as well as his, Cassidy resists and continues to unknowingly tempt the youngling with her soft touches. Her scent and her light are very powerful draws for Dominic and he cannot stand the thought of losing her or losing control around her.
Cassidy’s curiosity and journalistic mind get her into all kinds of situations where protection is called for. Dominic is up to the task. Her naivety puts everyone into a very precarious and dangerous situation, one where not everyone will survive. His desire to keep her safe and for a future that she deserves, turns into a living nightmare that Cassidy must do all in her power to help Dominic survive and to gin control over his beastly tendencies. These scenes are action packed and will have your heart pumping and possibly praying for a miracle.
S.K. has done an excellent job telling us the story of how Dominic Marchant came to be a young vampire and his struggle to regain some of his humanity despite his self-loathing. Cassidy’s love and belief in him helps push through and conquer the beast inside him. It takes everything he has got, and then some, but his destiny in his new world has a light that shines in Cassidy. She is his new Sun making his Dark existence somewhat bearable.
I loved the way this story portrays the good, the bad, and the ugly about the vampire world. There are no sparkles going on here, just real survival of the fittest. The story is filled with riddles and twists to keep your interest. There is plenty of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. A little humour now and again and definitely some sexual tension. The romance-dance that Cassidy and Dominic play will have you really respecting his control and protection over Cassidy’s safety as well as having you waiting (not so patiently) for him to figure it all out and learn how to love Cassidy while keeping her safe. This story is paced well, the writing is easy to follow yet the riddles make you stop and think, in a good way, about how Cassidy is the answer to Dominic’s humanity. Definitely suitable for YA and up but if you’re a bit squeamish, remember, you are reading a vampire story so a bit of blood will be spilled.
Once I got started with this story, my Kobo was within reaching distance at all times. Every chance I got, I was pulling it out to sneak in another chapter. To me, this is the sign of a good story. The sign that the author has done their job because, if I don’t want to keep reading, if I don’t have a desire to have these characters in my life and watch them grow, then it becomes more of a chore than a love. In short, I did love this story so much that I sent the author little messages along my journey to ensure her that I was totally enjoying her characters and into this book. I was given a copy directly from the author for an honest review and I do not hesitate to recommend this book to anyone who likes vampire stories and to give this a 5-star review.
I really did enjoy this story and I do actually feel bad for Jackson at times. I can see why Cassidy would be upset that he is still bothering her after they break up, but I can also see how protective of her he is. He does go to many extremes to “help save her” but he does have his reasons I think.
