About the Author

Charisse Howard has family on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line and ancestors on both sides of the Atlantic. She started pestering them at age three to buy her a horse, the same age she started reading. Her favorite author was Marguerite Henry ("Misty of Chincoteague"), and her plan was to become a cowgirl and circus rider. It took Charisse another five years to begin riding and writing in earnest, and five more years to discover Jane Austen and boys. She didn't actually get a horse (or a boyfriend) until she was 15; by then her first play had won a Junior Scholastic writing award. That thrill shifted her focus from penning ponies to penning poems, plays, and prose. "Dark Horseman" and her new "Regency Rakes & Rebels" novella series have allowed her to reunite her favorite pastimes, as well as spend time in some of her favorite places: Virginia, New Orleans, London and the English countryside.

There's a lot going on in this story. I found it fast paced and it kept my interest. The author did a good job with the Shakespearean theme. Intriguing in that at times I wasn't quite sure what direction she was going with the main characters. Set during a time period that women were seen and not heard, the heroine was strong without having to be mean and nasty.

Good historical research and some very interesting sub-characters make this one I would recommend to fans of historical and romantic fiction.

This book is a fun read! It's great for romance lovers of all ages and particularly young women will be inspired as well. It has beautiful people in a vintage setting; an unconventional horse-woman, moralistic considerations and meaningful associations to Shakespeare. There is a sudden twist in the plot that is killer!
