Editorial Reviews

When the Chambermusik movement began, in the mid 2000s, Wu-Tang/ODB affiliate Buddha Monk was instantly a key player, releasing vast amounts of archival music from the classic 1990s Hip-Hop era, serving to historically document some missing links in Hip-Hop history. But many fans wanted to know, what has he been doing since those days? Where is the new music, and is it still dope? Well, with 2013 comes a brand new release, The Dark Knight, and a brand new Buddha Monk. Monk was not only Old Dirty Bastards right-hand man, but unparalleled as an emcee, producer, singer, and engineer, he proves to us once more that his talent is forever, as he presents some of his strongest work to date. Featured on this outing are artists like Sadat X (Brand Nubians), Frukwan, (Gravediggaz/Stetsasonic), Darkim Be Allah (Wu-Tang), 12 0' Clock (Wu-Tang) K-Blunt (Zu-Ninjaz), Drunken Dragon (Da Manchuz), Layza Life (Da Manchuz), Menace O.B.E.Z. (Brooklyn Zu Fam), Black Jesus (Wu-Tang Harlem 6 / Gangstarr Foundation), Popa Chief (Zu Ninjaz), Murdoc (Brooklyn Zu), Silk Ski (Brooklyn Zu), Malik aka Mark Dee (Soul Kid Klik), G-Note$ aka Spiritual Assassin (Da Manchuz), and others. Producers include G-Clef da Mad Komposa (Soul Kid Klik), who also mastered and A & R's the album. This album is exciting and consistent, and will not let you down!

when I first heard "The Dark knight", I was expecting to hear some next level rap and while this isn't as good as "The Prophecy", it definitely is a heavy hitting and amazing album. A couple tracks aren't perfect but this is like 10 years after his debut so it's amazing how well he actually does. His rhyming style is a little less in your face but is still really hard and gets his point across with every bar. His flow is still as good as it was back in the day, and he has that unique style that never fails. All of his guests compliment him well, some of the Brooklyn Zu crew, the Wu crew, Sadat X of Brand Nubian etc, every single one of them contribute to the songs and build on what Monk has a already solidly crafted. There is some great sampling on this album, the beats are for the most part off the hook, and the backing music fits every track the way it should. Buddha Monk proves he's still got it here and he also makes me think to myself of what could have been if he had gotten the exposure he deserved and had Brooklyn Zu and fam got their due too. In the meantime though, pick this album up if you love the Wu-Tang, ODB, and just hard-hitting rap in general.
