Here's what I wanted
-more of Beth. Her steel backbone could have pursued an adventure of its own as she learned of herself.
-Mr.X. His charisma was nearly rigid tho menacing like Smith in the matrix. But still..Definitely a psychopath I would love to take a stab at. I'll be patient tho.
-Butch. This where I meant the tying of loose ends was almost too clean. He is definitely not a bad character tho.
With that said, there are redeeming qualities. I thoroughly enjoyed the fleshing of a vulnerable alpha male- it was just shy of loathsome self-pity. A different vampire culture and history was great too: not superpowered with preternatural lopsided fights.
I'm definitely not flagging this because I'm a greedy read and the Brotherhood will indeed satisfy. However I can't help but feel mildly disappointed but not discouraged to read more. I would still recommend this book and I'm excited to complete the series.
Edit: It didn't get better. I know BDB is a die-hard classic in pnr. But all I can say is: how? PNR has moved from the quintessential tortured hero structure of BDB.
The story was closely written without a lot of fat to get in the way. The characters, once given a chance, were engaging and the story line was unique in a sea of paranormal vampire romances out there. She knows how to bend the rules on the vampire mythology and creates her own world where the boys are vampires and the girls are excited.
This series may disappoint you if you are looking for more gothic darker style of vampire story but if you are looking for an urban paranormal with energy and a developing complex world, give Dark Lover a whirl. It is worth your time and money to read them.
Dark Lover introduces a world of danger and intrigue where vampires are not exactly the creatures of legends humans believe them to be. They also aren’t the ones that humans have to fear the most.
Wrath is the embodiment of strength, power and control who believes that any show of weakness will make him vulnerable. He has one weakness that he hides until he meets the one thing he cannot hide from.
Beth lives a totally normal life that she is bored with until she meets a dark, handsome stranger who changes everything. She soon finds herself thrown into a world of danger where she will have to face her fears.
Beth is so easy to connect with, because like us, she is thrown into a world she does not know about or understand. While she fears this new world she has been introduced to, she is also drawn to it. Well, she is mostly drawn to Wrath, but who wouldn’t be. 😉 He is a full on alpha male, but he has his challenges that he must face as well. One thing is for sure, there is no way either of them can deny the attraction they have for each other. Yet, will that attraction be enough?
Beth thinks she just an regular women living in the normal world, however she is wrong. She is a half-breed vampire, and about to go through the transition. She has a lot of stuff going on with her at the moment, and she has this major attraction to Wrath that she's not sure what she should do about.
The romance in this book was very interesting, it kept me wanting more I loved it. And then there was a ton of action, and lots of humor as well. All the things needed to make a spectacular book!
And it leads you into more, I can not wait to read the next book.
