Stellar Chilling Outstanding DARK Romance
Chilling, horrifying, mesmerizing, fascinating, erotic & emotionally consuming: ALL superbly combined together into a story so dark & deceptively enthralling, this reader was sucked into a totally frightening tale of predator & prey I couldn't escape. The author grabbed me by the throat immediately & all I can say is the suspense, the emotional horror & plot itself, along with the 2 main characters never released me. This story, the plot & the CHARACTERS completely consumed me! And *everything* only continued to intensify up to & including the pulse pounding cliffhanger ending, GAH!!!
It's England, 1969 & the main characters are 29 yr old Ethan Reilly (anti-H) an experienced lethal predator & 19 yr old Lily Simpson (h) an innocent naïve woman just beginning to spread her wings towards independence. And both are on a collision course that will fundamentally alter their lives forever. But not how either of them expects, or realizes . . . .
The frightening beauty of this terribly dark story with its equally dark characters is the deft & stellar writing of the author. The author lets the reader into both Ethan & Lily's minds via alternating POV's which helps the reader experience & sometimes understand their respective thoughts, motives, fears & lusts.
Ethan is a terrifying anti-H, because in spite of the heinous acts he's committed there is a piece of him that, while not remotely 'likable' is horribly mesmerizing. His self-confidence, his aura of power & control, his tall handsome muscular good looks & a devastating & lethal smile. Not all predators hunt the same way, & Ethan is like a leopard: silent, deadly, focused, intense & his true colors are never seen until his prey is locked in his Herculean grip. And his prey never realizes he is stalking them. And while as a reader I should have found him loathsome & horrifying, some how the author kept me enthralled & fascinated by this dark, dark predator.
Lily is one of Ethan's unrealizing prey, she is seduced by his maturity, his low key natural dominance, his sexual magnetism & the mysterious psychic dreams & connection they both share. She's inexperienced, sheltered, a pampered only child & has no understanding or defense against the suave & mature predator now focused on her.
The author does a superb job of pulling the reader into the growing darkness of the relationship that blooms between Ethan & Lily, his 'Little Flower': how Ethan ramps up his initial gentle dominance to ever increasing heights physically, sexually & mentally until Lily can think of, dream of & crave only Ethan. And Ethan is in equally in unknown waters as Lily has affected him like no other woman & that means treading a path he's never before walked.
As the story progressed, the author drew me ever deeper into Lily's realization of the horrifying situation in which she found herself. And as a counterpoint to Lily's increasingly panicked & disbelieving POV, came Ethan's POV which was almost always calm, measured & focused on HIS goals, wants & dark dominant desires.
And the ending while a cliffhanger, IMO was hands down OUTSTANDING & the last 2 paragraphs literally caused my heart to clench along with full body shivers . . . .
**15++ Stars** INTENSE STELLAR DEPRAVED SUPERB TWISTED HORRIFYING MESMERIZING
With 'FALLEN' Ms Brandon again demonstrates what a beautifully twisted, brilliant & maniacal GENIUS she is in crafting a story.
Ethan (anti-H) has re-captured his Little Flower, Lily (h), & she has MUCH to answer for: imprisoning him, running from him, betraying his trust. But will Lily be able to survive Ethan's punishments & 'lessons'? Will Ethan be able to continue to rein in his 'darkness' when his anger at Lily's transgressions are so livid?
Ethan demands perfection & complete honesty from his Little Flower, or else.
But, Ethan hasn't been completely truthful with Lily himself, & Lily is honing her ability to read Ethan's mind. Just how long may he be able to keep this last secret from her? And if he isn't able to do so, what then will happen between he & his Little Flower? For Lily is made of sterner stuff then it appears.
How can this writer be anything other than superb when her writing ability, her plot & her characterizations virtually FORCE me to LIKE Ethan & voluntarily plunge deeper & deeper under his spell? How may I fault Lily for her decisions & actions when I am just as guilty as she when it comes to Ethan? HOW can the author take such a reprehensible, heartless, lethal character & cause me to gravitate towards him, despite his past, his crimes, his depravity, his cold cruelty, his mocking & harsh punishments? HOW?
I was so affected by the author's writing in this book: it was flawlessly smooth, deceptively enticing, beautifully evocative in it's darkness & depravity, suspense, terror & fear.
I FELT Lily's terror, rage, confusion as bit by bit she continues to see Ethan's darkness revealed despite her innocence & love trying, hope against hope, to believe he isn't the complete monster she fears he really is. And at each reveal I felt Lily's frantic attempts to hold her head above the water & try to out maneuver & survive an older, more powerful, brilliant predator focused on keeping her forever.
And Ethan: The reader is drawn into his POVs, to see the conflicting & dangerous feelings the outwardly cold predator has for his Little Flower. How even Ethan must combat his natural proclivities & darkness to preserve the one woman (other than his sister) he truly does not want to permanently harm. His mind is logical, precise, completely amoral & is focused only on his wants, needs & dark depraved desires. All of which center on Lily.
The writing swirled me voluntarily into the horrifyingly intense journey that BOTH Lily & Ethan are taking in order to find their way, in their way, to their version of a HEA. . . .
I thought FALLEN would be like falling down Alice's rabbit hole. IT'S NOT, it's a BLACK HOLE from which there is NO ESCAPE . . . .
Heart Wrenching & Emotionally Shattering/Stellar Conclusion to A Superb Series
**15+++ Stars** I just put my Kindle down after finishing 'Forbidden' & I am in flat out awe of this stellar author: her writing skills, her characters, the plot, EVERYTHING is simply put, OUTSTANDING.
For an author to be able to wield her craft such that the reader actually moves beyond Ethan's (anti-anti-H) heinous past actions, to understand Lily's (h) ability to forgive him & still love him to the very depths of her heart & soul . . . . Despite all Ethan's done, to his victims & to Lily, what shines through all the darkness, depravity, deviance is the complete & total unconditional love they have for each other. That takes superb talent & ability, which IMO this author has hands down.
And that is what I was focused on, what carved out my heart & shredded it, enabled me to care so MUCH for Ethan in spite of his horrifying sins: his absolute unyielding love for Lily. And Lily, in spite of her knowing of Ethan's sins, resolving that she loved him too completely, too deeply to do anything other than cleave to her lover, her Master, her husband for as long as they both lived. Even the darkest things may love, love hard & love true.
This is a stunning & SUPERB series conclusion about a pair of SUPERBLY written characters. This is a heart wrenching & beyond gut wrenching tale & the author takes us on this devastatingly bittersweet journey, down what seems to be an inevitable path. My emotions were intense for this one, I felt raw & agonized as Ethan began to admit the mistakes his darkness had caused him to perpetrate, how his darkness was inflicting heartrending pain he never intended for Lily, & how it was fracturing their lives. And, instead of feeling he was reaping what he sowed, I found myself becoming more & more conflicted, teary-eyed, agonized for both Ethan & his Lily.
The author's writing is so smooth, so deft, so all encompassing that I forgot where I was, my surroundings, I was with Ethan & Lily as they realize the past has come to the present & an accounting is eminent. As a reader I felt as though the darkness was palatable & closing in on me too, I felt more & more claustrophobic, more agitated, more upset for these characters.
So again, I cannot state strongly enough just how superb this conclusion, as well as this entire series, is. If as a reader you want to be immersed, challenged, your emotions wrung dry & shredded, love writing & characters that seem to suck you into their world away from yours, that make you invested in them & CARE . . . .
Then read this entire series & especially this phenomenal conclusion.
This book...wow, it really threw me, not what I expected at all. This was such a unique and well-written story! Flawed is a prequel to the Dark Necessities trilogy of Taken, Tamed and Entwined, written by Felicity Brandon, one of my favorite authors. Her books never disappoint.
This is the story of Ethan and Lily, and it is quite a dark story. Be prepared. I like dark romances and this one was right up my alley. I don’t want to give too many details (read the blurb for those) as I had little when I started the book, and that’s what made reading it such a pleasure. Ethan, one of the darkest anti-heroes I’ve encountered in quite a while, enters into the innocent and protected life of Lily. Both are passionately drawn to each other.
There are aspects to Ethan and Lily that are quite surprising, dark, frightening, mysterious and intriguing. Since I knew little of the plot before I read this, the story unfolded in a truly marvelous fashion. I actually lost track of the passage of time while I read it, that’s how deeply it drew me in. And there’s another one coming as it ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. I can wait. Stories like these are worth waiting for. Highly recommended.
Wow, just wow, I think to myself as I shut the book and immediately start this review. Felicity Brandon never, ever disappoints me when I pick up one of her stories, and in this second installment of this trilogy (Flawed is part one), she took me by the hand and led me down the proverbial rabbit hole into a domain of dark love, and I mean really dark love, but love It truly is. This is what this author does so well. How is it I can recognize love within this type of bizarre scenario? Because she’s really good at combining opposites: love-hate, resentment-desire, confusion and certainty. I love her ability to create complex relationships, encompassing both light and darkness.
Ethan, a very scary, sexy guy. Lily, seemingly innocent but, huh, kinda into the extremes of things. An odd but perfect coupling, I think.
Murder, mayhem, angst, sensuality, love, psychism, all bundled together in a truly delicious story. Now, I’ve got to wait for the final book to come out so it can knock me senseless too. I can’t wait...
I’ve quite literally been in awe of this trilogy, and the third and final installment struck me hardcore. As I said about the previous book - wow, just wow. Felicity Brandon is one of my favorite authors, among a few authors I admire greatly for their incredible writing abilities. Ms. Brandon has never disappointed me, and I can’t tell you how many times she’s made me gasp, laugh, cry and shout out loud. She is one of those authors who deserves the accolades for excellence. She is consistently amazing.
The story of Ethan and Lily concludes in this third book of the series (Flawed and Fallen being the first two books). The book will take you by the hand and lead you into the lives of these two deeply flawed lovers. It’s quite a ride, let me tell you. Murder, mayhem, a deep and abiding love along with a dash of psychism all lead to a conclusion that was so perfect that it left me breathless. Jeez, Felicity, you couldn’t have made a better choice on how to end this series. I tip my hat to you. Highly recommended, as usual.
