Both characters are fantastic and nicely developed. The female lead is a strong character that readers can respect and relate to. The male lead is an extremely sexy alpha male cowboy that any woman would swoon over. The author provides a nice build-up before the raw, hot action begins. While this is a BDSM story, in truth it is light enough that any romance reader should find it sexy. The scenes fit into the characters personalities perfectly. This is also a nice little twist of suspense to keep the readers on their toes until the final page. Overall, a recommended read for those who love a strong, sexy alpha male story.
There's a lot going on in this book, but I really liked that about it. It starts with some great tension and allure (check out the sample if you don't believe me!) and it just keeps getting better from there. There's some really great speed ups, then a little slowing down to catch up, but those are the good parts since you never feel like you're being left behind in the whole thing, you know? I've read some books that are so fast paced that it's hard to keep track of everything, but Dark Prairie Fire gives you plenty of time to let everything simmer, even if it heats up to a steamy boiling every once in awhile.
The tension between Cat and Ethan is really sexy, too. There's dominance in there, with more than a bit of suspense, too. I love stories like that, where it's not just about the sexual attraction between the two characters, but there's some actual meat to the plot. The sexual attraction is great, but I always want more, and this book definitely gives it to you.
What I really liked was how steamy and sexy some of the scenes were, but they weren't too dirty, you know? Like... -naughty-, yes, and these characters are getting things done, but it still had a tinge of spicy sweetness to it, too. It's a bit more classy than some other erotic romances I've read, which is more my style for this kind of story.
Overall, a great read! If you haven't tried a Western romance out before and are a little worried, don't be. I was kind of worried at first, too, but this book is great and easily approachable for anyone not too familiar with the genre.
I just like the way Arthur writes and not many other people are writing stuff quite like this. It's a blend of romance, suspense/mystery and erotica that just works so well. Like I said before. My new favourite author.
I've only read two other stories by Mitchell, one of which I gave four-stars (Kept Pregnant) and the other (The Farm) I gave three-stars, yet I can already see that he is not the standard in what I've come to call "penny smut". With the exception of the one I gave three-stars to, I feel the characters in his stories are wonderfully developed and the scenarios depicted aren't as shallow as I've come to accept about most of these kinds of stories I've read in the genre where a lot of times I felt like I was just channel surfing and just happened to stumble onto an interesting porn scene.
This certainly isn't the case with Dark Prairie Fire. I liked how this was a short story and yet I knew enough about Ethan and Cat that I didn't feel like they were just thrown together. That is often a real problem with short stories, particularly in the erotica genre - it's almost like the author can get intimidated by their own guidelines and in an effort to get to the point of a story (ie: the sex in an erotic story), they omit the build-up any good story needs to make for a more satisfying climax and an even more satisfying end.Read more ›

Loved the idea of a hot cowboy who knows by instinct what to do. Amped up tension throughout, sexual and criminal. But alas, only fiction.Published 20 months ago by Charlotte
