A promise is made when she was born between her parents and a fairy, a promise with a fairy can not be broken. This is what she finds out when right after her birthday, her life shatters even more than she thought possible, what could get worse than waking up a freak? Oh, but it does. Now she is forced to deal with Dark fairies who want nothing more than her fairy butt on a platter, or better yet caged in one fashion or another, theres more than one kind of prison.
Very well written, took me right in and I couldn't put it down. Started the 2nd book but wanted to write a review before I forgot where one started and ended. Riley and Azura will pull you in, Kallan and Riley will keep you there.(Whose kallan you ask? You will find out)
Rylie is the girl with everything going for her and "omg, I'm a faery?! This is ruining my life!" Fortunately, she doesn't actually say 'OMG.'
She does get whiny about how somebody is "such a jerk!" although they've only been nice to her.
Sudden cheesy lines include things such as "[He] stood up, unfolding his long, lanky body in a graceful move that should have been illegal in its beauty." and "I narrowed my eyes... 'I hate you!'... I picked up a rock and threw it at him before storming back.... [somebody tried to reassure her]... 'Whatever!' I didn't bother looking back." If only the character had had that much passion in the scenes where things were really happening.
I held in there and the end was enough to hook me into trying out the 2nd book, which was better than this one.
Also the dialogue was just so awkward. DNF at 15% (But I did read the last CH. Didn't miss much)
Also, authors need to cut, cut, cut. Too much description that is repetitive. We get it. You don't have to beat us over the head that she doesn't need make up. The third time was just annoying, as was some of the stilted language. "Oh how she bla bla bla..." No. Just no. Again, something out of a fifties bodice ripper.
Now that I've trashed stuff let me tell you why I'm buying the next book. It's interesting. The characters are engaging. The fairy world is really cool to imagine. There is a lot of possibilities for plot with birth parents and love triangles.
I seriously hope these ladies don't let me down and develop the interesting possibilities.
Every single action and movement was described. It was like reading a See Dick and Jane book. It seemed as if the author read a book on how to write and said, okay, good enough. Every adjustment, every choice from the type of shoes she wore to the color of her notebook for her first class of the day was included. I'm surprised the author didn't describe Rylie's bowel movements as well. Just too much information, nothing left to the imagination, makes for a very boring read. Thanks but no thanks.
