Verity was the very definition of what a damsel in distress is. Struggling to provide shelter and food not on for herself but her mentally disabled brother, Ryan, Verity’s series of bad luck suddenly changes the day she lays her eyes on Colton Hayes. Colton’s immediate attraction and more importantly his connection with Verity is puzzling even to himself. This doesn’t stop him from stepping in and helping both Verity and Ryan secure jobs at TL’oC (The Legend of Camelot) which is sorta like the Medieval Times show. It’s then that both Verity’s and Colton’s lives change for the better.
I thought that the chemistry between Verity and Colton was instantaneous and definitely intense. To be honest, there were moments when Verity’s naivety and helplessness became a bit too much, but then again I understood the need for the extreme because heck, fairytales are almost like those Lifetime movies right? Drama times ten to get the perfect effect. I loved the way in which the author approached Ryan and Colton’s cousin, Mel’s story lines. Ryan definitely won my heart over many times in this book.
Dark Sexy Knight was an OK read for me. It was entertaining in most parts of the book with a dose of strain in the story line. This was a bit more slow paced than I had expected and with the 3rd person narrative combined, this made me lose a bit of interest as the pages wore on. However, if you’re looking for something with an old style romance feel, then Katy’s Regnery’s Dark Sexy Knight may just be for you.
To set the scene:
Colt Lane is a broody loner who lives by the words of his late Aunt Jane: "Stay out of trouble and earn a decent living".. but his temper gets the best of him when he sees someone he cares about getting bullied or in trouble.
Verity Gwynn, who cares for her older, special needs brother, Ryan, is in a bit of a tough spot. They are both unemployed and on the verge of eviction from the shady motel they've been staying in since leaving their childhood home. They take a chance at finding something together, ending up at a job fair where numerous restaurants and dinner theater establishments are recruiting. She enters that Marriott ballroom and meets the eyes of Colt, something jolting through her.
Colt spots Verity from across the ballroom and is inexplicably drawn to her. One brief conversation with her about her generalities of her situation, and he's next to his HR director securing employment for bother her and her brother.
Unable to determine what's brought on his new "knightly" ways, Colt invites Verity and Ryan into his life. His attraction to Verity has him at odds with the man he's always known himself to be. She makes him think he could actually be happy and hope for a more in life, something he never thought he deserved.
But Colton is hiding something, a secret that could turn Verity away from him forever when all he wants is forever with her.
