This sound was quite lovely in Edward Scissorhands, appropriately haunting for Sleepy Hollow, vibrant and whimsical throughout Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
However, with Alice in Wonderland, this particular signature began sounding old and tired.
In Dark Shadows, it has no place at all.
The theme is quite beautiful, the harmonies of the Choir, strong and complimentary. And, his score sounds more symphonic than previous pieces.
The female vocalising sounds almost like a hastily pieced together track, thrown into the mix after the score was completed. And, sounds pieced together from discarded moments from Sleepy Hollow and Alice.
If not for this over-used and tired vocalising, this score would be one of Danny Elfman's finest to date.
Here's hoping THAT particular signature sound is laid to rest.
It no longer has a place in cinema.
Oingo Boingos prodigy has simply repeated 'motifs' he created for the score and inserted them over and over
throughout the soundtrack.
A big ripp off and 'dis' to we Dark Shadows film enthusiast!
What is truly confounding is that when we listened to the amazon mp3 previews, the
compositions sounded fresh and different.
But, beware. When you get the actual album, you find Elfman does not
/is NOT creative. he simply re-uses the same set of compositional devices
over and over. Sad.
I would not purchase this product again.
