I didn't realize how well the great Jim Garrison understood what happened with the JFK case at that early stage either. Garrison said things that I didn't think people figured out until many years later. Garrison could have solved the JFK mystery and brought the conspirators to justice except for a very important obstacle. Lyndon Johnson was now the President Of The United States. Johnson had appointed one of his cronies as the new Attorney General and this character crushed Garrison's investigation.
The conspiracy theory about Johnson is his many past crimes including murders were starting to surface because of his associations with Bobby 'Lyndon Jr.' Baker and Texas Billie Sol Estes. Johnson was out of options. His choices were be friendly towards the John Kennedy assassination and the escalation in Vietnam or go to the penitentiary for probably the rest of his miserable life. Like Pontius Pilate and so many others throughout history Johnson sold his soul to the dark forces of his day and he could not get out of the bargain even if he had wanted to.
Joachim Joesten saw the conspiracy to assassinate President Kennedy as coming from what people call the extreme right. This group included wealthy Texas oil barons and industrialists who had positioned themselves to amass vast fortunes with the help of their man in Washington, Landslide Lyndon Johnson. That right wing element had strong ties to U. S. intelligence which means the CIA.
Joesten mentions the grotesque spectacle of Lyndon Johnson insisting to be sworn in as President aboard Air Force 1 before leaving Dallas with Jackie Kennedy in her blood soaked dress standing by his side. Joesten felt Johnson was afraid Bobby Kennedy might try to interfere with him becoming the new president. However I think another reason might have been to get Jackie Kennedy away from the casket so John Kennedy's body could be removed and mutilated before the fake autopsy.
Those are all interesting details about the broader issue of the greedy and powerful getting control of the United States. The CIA had mutated into something similar to Stalin's NKVD and the Nazi's Gestapo where they had an iron fisted stranglehold on the news media, police agencies, and many other American institutions.
Roger Stone calls Lyndon Johnson The Man Who Killed Kennedy. I think that's correct in the sense that I don't think John Kennedy gets killed unless Johnson or someone else like him was the Vice President. And there weren't too many people around like him.
Judyth Vary Baker surfaced many years after the assassination and told how she met and fell in love with Lee Oswald during that fateful summer of 1963 in New Orleans. Lee Oswald told Judyth Baker to never forget three names:
Billy Sol Estes
David Atlee Philips
Oswald said Baker and Estes would not be directly involved in the JFK assassination but the assassination would happen because of them. And the reason for that is those two were involved with criminal activities that were leading back to Lyndon Johnson.

What I found truly remarkable, is that Joesten originally published this book in 1968, meaning its research and fact-checking was done at a time that precious few in the US dared question (publicly) the flimsy "official version" of events as parroted by the lock-step media. There were extremely few people who took the gregarious action -- along with Jim Garrison -- to publicly act against the coup d'etat that was represented JFK's assassination. The claims made in Joesten's amazingly stand the test of time in that the allegations therein are lent credence by those who have come forward since LBJ's death.
You will not regret reading this book. In fact, you'll get a front seat from 1962-1968 in which you'll have a brutally-honest view of Johnson's rise to and the culmination of his power.
