Returning to Cornwall from boarding school is supposed to give Dorothy a chance to relax and forget the bleak future awaiting her, at least for a little while. At home, she has Mordred and Akuba, her closest friends, and one-time Most Desirable Bachelor Eastmund. And her family, she supposes.
However, once-sleepy Brightwater is disturbed by troubles the likes of which neither medicine nor investigation can explain. Any history is just fairy tales, the talk of old Cornish peasants. The manor home of the once-aristocratic Brightwaters provides no shelter, for lurking there is the man who may be at the center of all the recent troubles: the handsome, ominously reclusive Halim. Dorothy and he have a tantalizing connection from the moment they speak, but Halim's dedication to honesty terrifies Dorothy more than it comforts her.
Swamped by danger from every angle and still unable to ignore her daylight responsibilities, Dorothy's starting to get stretched thin. Will her fight to make her own way lead to safety and bliss with Mordred... or drown all of Brightwater in the horrors of the night and its starving denizens?
Dark Skies Over Brightwater is a full-length novel with no cliffhanger, the first in the Brightwater series.
