It's 2030. Long Island is sweltering through another long, hot summer. And the government is experimenting with cybernetically controlling the undead.
What could possibly go wrong?
This is the true account of a medical disaster that nearly destroyed the country, and it started with a little girl...
a rabbit...
and a tiny little bite.
Experimental biologist Lyssa Stemple's controversial animal research laboratory is embroiled in a brutal murder investigation, when her six-year-old daughter, Cassie, begins to show signs of a rare and terrifying new disease spreading across the island. Learning that a possible treatment exists on the mainland, Lyssa makes a desperate attempt to leave before all the exits are locked down.
With time running out and the military shooting to kill anyone who shows signs of the illness, Lyssa turns to a highly controversial treatment to save her daughter. There's little guarantee it'll work... and every possibility it'll end up creating in something far, far worse.
A Dark and Sure Descent is a hair-raising tale of a family's survival and struggle in a world where hi-tech and bleeding edge biology merge to produce something truly terrifying. Descent is a standalone title and prequel to Saul Tanpepper's acclaimed epic cyberpunk dystopian series, ZPOCALYPTO from THE WORLD OF GAMELAND.
From the author of the popular post-apocalyptic survival series, BUNKER 12 and its companion medical thriller series THE FLENSE.

If you have read even part of Gameland, this book will answer what I thought was the biggest question right from the start of the series. What happened to Long Island?
It's a complicated story involving more than a few people and several government agencies. There might be actual bad guys here; if so, they are well disguised, or hidden in bureaucracy. Perhaps the problem started with a series of unrelated events,or maybe an unfortunate error or two. Maybe there was evil intent, maybe not. Once triggered, though, the disaster rapidly became a unmanageable situation, not unlike a runaway train. I really felt bad for the main characters. They have more than their fair share of misery and pain to deal with, and scant hope.
Well written and intriguing, unmistakably a fine horror story. I enjoyed every page.
Just as Hansel and Gretel, who left bread crumbs in order to find their way home, Saul has also left you a trail to follow. But, home is not where it will lead you... No spoilers, but this a book, you won't want to miss!
Only 5 stars? How sad... it deserves even more!
There were many times I thought ok it can't get crazierthen that and it did. This is a great action packed zombie story.

As always with Saul Tanpeppers books the writing style is very good, and complex plots all roll together cleanly. Strongly recommended.
