I was truly hooked from the start. I know it's a cliche, but I could not put it down and all I kept thinking as the story went along was "WOW, this would make a GREAT movie.....and it would definitely be an 18+". We've all read good guy/bad guy stories before, but this one takes the whole genre to a new level, I have NEVER come a cross a bad guy like this before, as evil as evil gets. For anyone who's read Visible's blogs I'll warn you (and so does he at the start!) it is very dark at times and maybe not what you're expecting, but, all you should be expecting is a masterful piece of literature from a contemporary literary phenomona......which is exactly what you'll get. If you haven't visited the blogs, you probably will even before you've finished the book, just to see what sort of person came up with this stuff.
Disturbing at times but captivating throughout.
I've given it my best shot but I know I haven't got the skills to do this book justice.
So just buy it and thank me later!
The steady paced novel involves assorted characters such as a battered ex-cop who's about to start anew; a modern day adept of Evil seeking revenge and infinite power; psychopathic miscreants; a corruptible policeman; a district attorney with spine; Columbia-LA drug traffikers; a timeless Oriental sage who, coincidentally or not, bears the name 'Ming', which in Tibetan means 'name' (non-honorific form) and 'bright/brilliant', as in the Chinese dynastic (1358-1644) appellation (also 'name' if pronounced with rising tone); et al. Woven into the story there are lessons in destiny, past lives, friendship and perseverance, spirito-perceptual transformation to non-dual (Sanskrit 'advaita', Tibetan 'gnyis-med') awareness.
"For a moment he had a vision of humanity climbing on a spiral staircase. Its beginning could not be seen and its end disappeared into a cone of light...Each step on the stairway was at a different station of consciousness. The important thing was not to piss over the railing (p. 234)."
The plot runs in a pretty straightforward manner, regardless of the occasional non-linear detours that should pose no difficulty for full comprehension.Read more ›
A remarkable book, well written, fast, insipiring and easily read. I certainly hope the author chooses to write more along these lines!
