This is the first book review I've ever written, but on seeing the cover and looking forward to reading all the great reviews on this fantastic book, I get here and.......there aren't any!! So I feel compelled and honoured, to write my first review as the first reviewer for this classic novel. Shame on all you Visible fans who have alot more talent for this sort of thing than I do (grin).

I was truly hooked from the start. I know it's a cliche, but I could not put it down and all I kept thinking as the story went along was "WOW, this would make a GREAT movie.....and it would definitely be an 18+". We've all read good guy/bad guy stories before, but this one takes the whole genre to a new level, I have NEVER come a cross a bad guy like this before, as evil as evil gets. For anyone who's read Visible's blogs I'll warn you (and so does he at the start!) it is very dark at times and maybe not what you're expecting, but, all you should be expecting is a masterful piece of literature from a contemporary literary phenomona......which is exactly what you'll get. If you haven't visited the blogs, you probably will even before you've finished the book, just to see what sort of person came up with this stuff.

Disturbing at times but captivating throughout.

I've given it my best shot but I know I haven't got the skills to do this book justice.

So just buy it and thank me later!

The present book appears to be a new, second edition of an occult thriller, with elements of horror, that originally came out under the title The Dark Splendor. Hopefully, this one contains less typos and punctuational anomalies, which the author (also in the capacity of NWO dissenter, spiritualist, psychonaut) ascribed in one of his blog dispatches to careless oversight on the part of its former publisher (Oxford: Mandrake 2006; 439 pages).
The steady paced novel involves assorted characters such as a battered ex-cop who's about to start anew; a modern day adept of Evil seeking revenge and infinite power; psychopathic miscreants; a corruptible policeman; a district attorney with spine; Columbia-LA drug traffikers; a timeless Oriental sage who, coincidentally or not, bears the name 'Ming', which in Tibetan means 'name' (non-honorific form) and 'bright/brilliant', as in the Chinese dynastic (1358-1644) appellation (also 'name' if pronounced with rising tone); et al. Woven into the story there are lessons in destiny, past lives, friendship and perseverance, spirito-perceptual transformation to non-dual (Sanskrit 'advaita', Tibetan 'gnyis-med') awareness.

"For a moment he had a vision of humanity climbing on a spiral staircase. Its beginning could not be seen and its end disappeared into a cone of light...Each step on the stairway was at a different station of consciousness. The important thing was not to piss over the railing (p. 234)."

The plot runs in a pretty straightforward manner, regardless of the occasional non-linear detours that should pose no difficulty for full comprehension.

Les Visible is a very talented writer and this novel is obvious of that. The story is reflective of what is actually happening in today's world to one with his eyes open. The elite can only hold to their nearly absolute power as long as man remains asleep.

I rarely take a chance on a new author unless I've read some of their prior work, but I am glad I took the chance on this.
A remarkable book, well written, fast, insipiring and easily read. I certainly hope the author chooses to write more along these lines!
