I was so excited to get my hands on this story. Daniel/Cain has hidden in plain sight for 20 something years with Sybil being his only "in town" contact.
My heart breaks for Daniel and the other boys who were abused. I can't imagine the suffering, the agony of what they live with every day. Shiloh does a great job of conveying that to us. We catch glimpses of Daniel's memory, just little pieces here and there and it's enough.
Usually I can figure out who the killer is before it's revealed. Not this time. I was so shocked!
Great ending to a great trilogy.
I can't wait for what Shiloh has next for us!
Sybil has family issues as well. Dealing with a drug addict sister while trying to raise her nephew without any real legal right to him keeps Sybil on edge as well. While caring for David is something she can't seem to keep herself from doing, Sybil does recognize David's limitations when it comes to loving her back.
DARKER THAN DESIRE is a wonderfully dense and complicated romantic suspense story. This book is not at all that comfortable to read. There's no real romance in the traditional boy meets girl sense. There's abuse, death, and people getting away with things for way too long. However, I really enjoyed it. There was never a really good stopping point for me as I read it. It was always a case of "I'll just read a little more and then stop." I loved the story, I loved the writing, and I will definitely dive into more books by Shiloh Walker in the near future!

Shiloh Walker has woven an in depth and emotional series, each character is wounded in some way and must rise to embrace their HEA which they deserve.
That said Cain/David was a great character. A tortured hero, he was a man who had suffered horrible abuse. I was drawn into his anguish and his struggle to love Sybil who has been in his life for ten years. The pull between David and Sybil was beautiful to read. The doubts that ravaged them, and the fight to hold what they had together was really great to observed.
I loved Sybil character. She loved David for ten years, and understood he was broken, if not how or why. I saw her courage, felt her determination, and I truly admired her dedication to her family, and to loving and understanding David. She stood by him through the vile rumors, the suspicions and the murders. While he pushed from her several times, and at times came off as too cold and aloof, Sybil was not a push over. She had this quite strength that eventually broke through the torment and coldness David tried to shroud himself in.
This book had the right edge of darkness, the right amount of suspense, mystery, and love to make it a wonderful read for me.
