This was a really interesting book about not just immortals, but humans as well. In a world where the lore of these warriors can be found on the internet, it seems very much like ours with a few differences, like the whole immortals being around and Illusionists like Grace and Ana. They both are more powerful than what their kind is really supposed to be like. They are powerful enough to cause actual injuries by making the mind think the body is being hurt. It's an insanely scary gift to have for Grace. In fact, she thinks it's a curse until she finds Quinn. In him she finds the freedom and acceptance that she has wanted so badly but thought that she would never have. Bad things have happened in her past and she doesn't like to get close to other people because they could get hurt. But not Quinn. He has ways to combat illusions and he's virtually impossible to kill.
As much as I liked this really cool and weird world of the Calydon warriors, there were some things that I just didn't understand. Like this need to fight something that is going to happen any way you put it. They try so hard to keep from going through the steps of the bonding process, but every time one of them happens, they don't seem that messed up about it. In fact, the closer they come to completing the bond, the happier they are every time one of the phases is complete. For them to be fighting it so hard, sometimes it looks like they are diving into it headfirst at the same time. Why fight something like that then?
One other thing I didn't like about the book was how their ability to have a choice in the matter was taken away completely. Or it kind of seems like it. This whole sheva thing seems to take any choice out of the matter of who is your mate and what will happen once you bond. It's kind of crappy if you ask me, not having a say in your own fate. Because of the warriors going wild when they find their mate, the shevas are often killed. They are more expendable than the warriors are.
What I do like? The fact that Quinn and Grace are both determined to beat the sheva curse. It was a pretty good read and free on kindle right now!!
One of Quinn's team mates turns on him, and he is desperate to find out what is going on. Grace's sister is missing, and is accused of causing the deaths of several Calydon warriors. Grace seeks out Quinn to help her find her sister, and they realize their missions are entwined.
There is a lot of necessary world building in the first half of the book, and it drags a bit at times. Once the stage is set, though, hold on because the ride gets very bumpy and frenetic. Very bad Calydons, one of the original Calydons escaping his 2000 year old prison, dead team mates who may or may not be gone forever...Lots of interesting stuff going on, but presented well, without giving this reader topic whiplash.
What worked for me - Quinn - Oh, I loved Quinn. So stoic, so alone for so long, with only his "brothers" for company. Going through his long life killing former friends who have the misfortune to meet their sheva, and/or the shevas. Grace was like his miracle, and I felt his longing for her so keenly. There is a point where he kind of loses his composure, and lets Grace comfort him. Oh, it brought tears to my eyes.
Grace - Grace is a badass. Not because she has mad skills, or is fearless. Far from it. She is often afraid, but she does what she has to, anyway. She is determined to find her sister. Grace also does not want to be marked for death as Quinn's sheva. Both Grace and Quinn try to fight the bonds, but fate has a way of stepping in to achieve its goals.
The Order - Quinn's team mates. Can't wait to hear their stories.
What didn't work so well - Continuity. First, we hear Quinn doesn't believe the sheva bond really causes the Calydons to go rogue. He thinks the warriors should be given a chance to come back from their rogue like state. Then we hear from one of the Order members that Quinn has killed more shevas than anyone else. Maybe he was acting on orders, I don't know, but it was a little jarring.
I have read 2 other Stephanie Rowe series, so I jumped on this when I saw it as a Kindle Freebie. While the Order is not as laugh out loud funny as the Immortally Sexy series, there were some comedic relief scenes here and there. All in all, the writing is solid, the story is very fast paced and all of the various plot lines are handled well. I will be reading the rest of the series.
Bottom line - Time well spent.

It felt so long winded, rambling and very slow. The best part of the book to me was the last few chapters as they were at a much better pace and far more enjoyable than the rest of the book. I have to say that I don’t think that I will be reading any more books in this series as there are another 11 books. The books may get better as they go forward with the story but this series just isn’t for me.
Grace Matthews is an Illusionist just like her younger sister Ana who has been kidnapped. The difference between their illusions is that Ana creates such happy and uplifting illusions and wouldn’t hurt a fly. Where Graces illusions are so dark and dangerous to her and anyone near to her when an illusion takes hold. Grace has been doing everything that she can to stop these dreadful illusions and her sister Ana is the light that keeps them away. Grace has nobody she can turn to in the quest to find her sister except for Quinn Masters.
Quinn Masters is a Calydon an Immortal Warrior, with a band of brothers who fight for the same purpose. To stop rogue Claydons and their soulmates/sheva from going rouge and causing death and distruction in their wake.
The Claydons have been cursed by the two brothers that made their race. Once a Claydon finds his soulmate/sheva all that matters to both of them is their bond and this bond destroys everything in their way. So it’s up to the non rouge Claydons to hunt down and kill their brothers or try to save him if he’s not gone to rouge by sacrificing his soulmate/sheva.
Grace finds Quinn and pleads with him to help her find and rescue her sister. Quinn isn’t interested in helping Grace. Until they both realise that her sisters kidnapping is connected to some of his brothers becoming evil and killing other Claydons as though to wipe them all out.
Someone is using Ana’s illusions to control and harm other Claydons. The person who has kidnapped Ana is torturing her to make the most deadliest of illusions and making Claydons attack each other. All in the quest of freeing one of the most deadliest of Claydons to walk the earth one of the originals.
Quinn has no choice but to help Grace, but can he get the rest of his brothers to help and not kill Grace with her also being an illusionist and Quinn’s soulmate/sheva?

The romantic aspect of this story while pivotal to the plot, is what detracted from the story, because it was so poorly done.
It meandered on for far too long about the destiny of shevas and their warriors. On and on and on. Far too much introspection about nothing and very repetitive. Neither wanted to bond but then both dove straight into the first stage (sex of course) as soon as they were able. Quite apart from an excess number of pages and repetition about duty and destiny, the passionate kisses and groping while deadly fights are occurring really defies belief and detracts from the otherwise excellent story.

It was an easy lose yourself story, the characters were likeable and the story-line went at a fair pace from the start. I did feel in some parts it sagged, i think i started to get bored with the build up to Quinn and Graces "moment." In my head i was screaming "just get on with it!!" just because i wanted to get on with the actual story, it didn't ruin the read though and towards the end i couldn't read quick enough.
There were a few parts to the story and characters that felt familiar but at the same time there were also some new and interesting elements. I liked that there were a few lighter moments between the characters and towards the end of the book you began to feel the bond between them all.
I would recommend this book, I have put the next book in the series into my read list and will come back to it.

I loved this book. It was well-written and a decent length - long enough to get lost in it for a while. I was a little confused at first by what Calydons were, but I picked it up fairly quickly. I absolutely adored Quinn and I appreciated that Grace had a backbone. I loved the whole "totally doomed" thing they had going on and it kept me interested, waiting to see what would happen. Nothing beats a big, tough alpha male going all gooey for his mate.
Although, the book was steamy, there was plenty of plot too. Overall, a highly entertaining story. I note that there were quite a few of these books, so they should keep me amused for a while. I've already bought book 2 and I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's work. Stephanie Rowe has a new fan.

and he thinks that she might be his sheva they then both start to search for Ana and Elijah and the begging of the trails that before they are bonded
