The interview was conducted by David Blum, who works for Amazon as the editor of Kindle Singles. Blum began his career as a staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal, and has been the editor-in-chief of The Village Voice, the New York Press and 02138 Magazine. He was previously a writer and editor at The New York Times Magazine, and a contributing editor at New York and Esquire magazines. He has written two books: "Flash in the Pan: The Life and Death of an American Restaurant" (1992), and "Tick...Tick...Tick...: The Long Life & Turbulent Times of 60 Minutes" (2004).

Unfortunately, this interview offers almost no insight to anything Darren Star has created. This seems more like an advert for his new series rather than the interview I was wanting. Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place are barely mentioned. I bought this expecting some more about these two shows and Sex and the city not a disappointing transcript of a mediocre conversation.

not sure this added anything to what I already guessed, he saw an opportunity to market women as gay men, I think there is a tendency for those affiliated with the show to think too much of its importance, he calls it a movie on TV, ironic since the movies were so critically panned. I think the success of the show is attributable to its stars, SJP, once voted world's most unsexy woman by Maxim, hailed as a statue of liberty when on the streets of what she calls the fifth character, NYC. The other "girls" haven't fared so well post SATC except for a gay marriage which is something.
