I think that the Bane series is the best of all the Star Wars books. This is certainly personal opinion, and someone could make a counter-claim for any series, and I couldn't refute it without referring to personal preference in many or possibly most cases. I will propose why I think this is the best of the series:
1) Sith are cool
2) Bane and his apprentice are awesome
3) The foundation and thinking for the Sith established is the only one that makes sense
4) You end up respecting the heck out of all the Sith lords afterwards and have a deeper sense of Sidious and the thinking and rationale of his lineage as a result - Sidious is the culmination of Bane's vision!
5) It deepens and complicates the mythology of the force in ways that Jedi focused novels never can
6) You get to see the seedier side of the Universe the Jedi live in: The Jedi live in a kind of bubble, and by reading Jedi focused novels, you only see this universe through the Jedi bubble. These novels give you an insight into the seedier, darker side of this universe and take you out of the Jedi bubble. Money, wealth, power, prestige doesn't matter to the Jedi, and so there is always an idealized veneer through which this space-travelling culture is seen in most novels. The Bane series shows you the universe and the motivations that move and drive the 'other people' in this galaxy - and quite honestly, provides a more complex and interesting picture of this galaxy and the people who live in it.

I've read this series a few times now, and all I can say is WOW! It's unfortunate that this is no longer considered Canon. These books and Plagueis should have been made into Canon. It would have been amazing to see how the Rule of Two would have continued to play out through the generations of Sith Lords. I'm curious to see how Disney will play this all out- or if they ever will.
I've read all of the new Canon and have only found a few I truly enjoyed. There is no in-between these days. Either the book is fantastic, or it's really bad. After reading Battlefront 2, I've decided to go back and re-read my older Star Wars books again.
The Darth Bane series is a great set. It's been a few years since I've read it, but still as good as the first time I did. The author did a phenomenal job writing Darth Bane's character and gives an inside look to as why the Sith were always doomed to fail against the Jedi. Hence leading the way to the Rule of Two. A master; one to embody the power. And an apprentice; one to crave it.

I have to be honest, I was expecting these books to be just some little stories that could give me a better notion of the history of the force, you know a regular read to pass the time and get some geeky knowledge of the star wars universe, but oh man it was one of the most fantastic reading experiences i have had in my life. In my humble opinion:
what's the best?
All 3 books are amazing, none of them disappoints, and the story builds up just perfect through all of them.
What's the worst?
(Corny and perhaps cheaty) the trilogy ends! I mean i had such an amazing ride with these books that I am honestly a bit sad that i reached the end.
Anyway, i definitely recommend these books and i totally think Disney should consider them canon. Thanks to the author Drew for his amazing writing!

Five stars! This book which is actually the collection of all three books from the Bane series was an incredible ride and didn't disappoint in the least. The origin and evolution of Bane was in incredible. Drew K kept great pacing and built tension appropriately during the entire series. The characterization was on point , made sense and delivered in n abundance to it's surprising conclusion. It was like a five star meal delivered slowly so one could savor each delicious morsel alongside a chilled goblet of the finest wine. That consummation kept you wanting more and more until the very end. Bane ended in the way we knew it must end but in a way that we completely wanted , the sith would survive and a part of Bane would endure..as noted by the tremor in Darth Zannahs left hand and in the Sith rule of two, thousands of years to Sidious and the destruction of the republic and Jedi order.

Karpyshyn does a great job of telling a story that we are so used to be told over video that its hard to notice that its a book. I should begin by saying that I am not an avid reader. But recently I needed to fly about 10+ hours, and I haven't been able to sleep on flights recently, so I decided to load up my Kindle app. I figured if its something I'm interested in maybe I would be able to read it and not be bored out of my mind.
There's a clear reason that the books are NY Times bestsellers. There is an ample amount of imagery and description for a set of characters and worlds, but also leaves enough room for your own mind to fill in the blanks and assume certain things based on the things you've seen from Star Wars in the past. In my opinion a perfect balance between letting you imagine the story, but also giving you enough information that you see the story unfold right before your eyes.
Now whats really great is that you get all 3 in one package, which means you don't need to hunt the rest down, and they all flow right after one another. If you're looking for a way to kill time till episode 8, or about to hop on a long flight, I say download all three, and even if you read a few pages a night, you will enjoy the experience of experiencing the world of Star Wars through a different channel.

For anyone who really likes the Old Republic era of Star Wars. This book takes places quite a while after the events of the Knights of the Old Republic games. I quite like most of the books this author has made for the Star Wars universe.

The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be "unnatural". If one is to comprehend the true nature of the force, one must study ALL of it's aspects.

This is what Star Wars was meant to be! Hands down the greatest Star Wars books I have ever read. Disney needs to get this guy writing movie scripts for them.

Loved the pace and details provided by the author. How they showed things from the dark side perspective was intriguing. Definitely one of the best star wars series to date.
