I bought the most recent version, updated in 2011, but the book included many instances in which the book had not been updated. For example, it refers to the year 2005 in future tense at one point in the book. I found several other examples just like this one.

This book contains some useful information, however, most of the information is horribly outdated. Goes too much into detail about obsolete technologies such as T1 lines and 56K modems. It's fine if they want to cover that for purposes of showing where technology has come from, but it does not go deep into more current technologies. If I wanted a book in networking history, I would have bought one. The latest edition is copyright 2009, but you wouldn't know it from reading the text.

Unfortunately this book is required at my class at DePaul University, so I have no choice but to read and learn about outdated information. If you can avoid a class that assigns this book, I would highly recommend doing that.

I see other reviews of this book are mostly positive, but I cannot see why.

This book is required reading for a class in my graduate studies. I am really enjoying it because of how the book is broken up. Very straight forward and easy to comprehend the information presented. Would highly recommend.

The book was a little difficult to follow at first, but met the needs for taking the class. Could use some improvements in flow of content and wording of definitions.
