I am a tech for Comcast and I can honestly say, this is the best prep tool available. They used to sell em at Home Depot but have been discontinued for some cheap replacements. Unless u work with speaker or cat5, remove the iiner razors or they will butcher u, me and some colleagues learned the hard way. Great tool. I buy 2 at a time

This is an excellent stripper tool; I use it to make up my personal RG-6 Tv cables, principally because most cables purchased are too long or too short for a neat installation of TV sets. The instruction sheet with this tool is inadequate for the inexperienced user, which I am. After running several test strippings of TV RG-6 cable and applying end connectors; after studying the tool and its features, and sleeping overnight with the issue of its proper use, I discovered that the pictures in the instructions sheet that came with the product was somewhat misleading. In looking carefully at the tool with the jaws open you will discover that at the very front end there is a set of two knife blades, one straight across to one side of the other with a central notch in the blade. This is where the RG-6 cable is to be inserted and the tool rotated around about four times to produce two cuts on the end of the cable. After cutting the cable, if you grasp the very front end of the cable insulation with pliers and rotate it while pulling out, the central copper wire of the cable will be exposed and of proper length most of the time; in addition there is a second cut of the outer skin of the cable; pull this off with your fingers and expose the grounding wire mesh and aluminum foil covering the central insulator of the center copper wire conductor. Skin back the mesh with fingers to cover the opposite end of the cable, leave the aluminum foil in place but inspect the very end and make sure that there are no mesh wire or aluminum foil debris touching the central copper conductor; then take your connector, slide it over the cable end until the central insulator meets the center shield cicle at the inner base of the connector's open end.Read more ›

I had in the past a different brand of stripper. It was functional at stripping co-ax. This is like the Caddie of strippers. Comes preset to perfectly strip RG-6 co-ax proir to installing waterproof connectors. Line the cable up, 3-4 turns of the stripper, remove stripper, remove pieces from co-ax, install connectors. 30 seconds or less. Job done.

Please note that the RG6 cassette (marked "59 6") has trouble with RG6 quad shielded outdoor cable. These cables are thicker than the regular RG6 cable but not as thick as 11 cable. If you use 11 cassette it will partially cut the cable shield. If you use 6 cassette it will not cut the white dielectric around the center wire all the way through. What you can do is to make the cut with 6 cassette first and remove the cut parts and then use the knob adjustable blade to finish the dielectric cut. An utility knife will also do.

This is a great tool for stripping coax. The instructions, however, do not make clear that the tool does the double-step strip required in one step. With the finger ring towards you and down, open the jaws and feed the coax cable from the left. Let the tool clamp down on the cable, then twirl 3-4 times around and remove. The first cut exposes the core wire, and the second simply removes the outer plastic covering (note that there are two blades inside at differing heights).

If you are using compression type fittings, do not roll back the braiding or foil barrier, as some sites instruct.

Yes, be careful I cut myself carelessly and this was in no way related to the item's functionality, it was my fault for being careless, I was using my index finger to strip a coaxial cable and I didn't noticed that I placed my index finger in the handle that doesn't have the little 'O' or ring shape, thus causing me to slip my finger all the way in and I did cut myself, it wasn't a serous cut but it was deep enough to make me stop and treat it right away.

I ended up removing those blades that I cut myself with, (the ones at the end near the 'O'/ring shape'.
I just needed to strip cables not cut them anyways. but again it was my fault and the item works wonders!

I would recommend it! (but also suggest they watch what they're doing or remove the extra blades to be on the safe side)

I never used this kind of stripper before. I needed something decent to use in preparing rg6, cmr, quad shield cable. It worked perfectly for me the first time I tried it. Make a clean square cut in the coax, make sure to use a pair of pliers to round the center conductor if it is crunched into an oval. If not it will fail. Put the coax in up to the guide then, letting the tool do the work spin it around the coax. Try a couple times. If not ready try a turn or two more. Test it as you go Don't open it just gently slide it off with the insulation you are trying to remove. Use the built in brush type thing to brush the shielding back into position. If it's quad shield you'll have to remove the outer layer of foil then brush back the second layer of braid. The trickiest part is removing that first layer of foil. Nick it at the base and tear it around the cable. There are a few good YouTube videos of the job being done. Suggest looking at them also. .A couple of practice shots and you'll be an expert.
