On and on and on Ginger droned about her dad's drinking being why she can't try with the hot ER doc Greg who clearly wanted her. Not quite sure why he kept trying after all the times she turned him down.
How many times did she have to explain why she was turning him down? We get it! Your dad was a raging alcoholic ER doc who dealt with the stress and sadness of what happens in the ER with booze and so you didn't want the same life. How many times do you have to explain it in the book? Once or twice would have sufficed.
Her sister Mary Ann was ridiculous and took advantage of her. Getting facials but can't afford her half of the rent? Grow up and quit covering for her! And her mom. Seriously, how old are you that you'd let your mom get away with controlling your life?
By the end I wasn't even rooting for her to get the guy - he was too good and nice for her and she was too stubborn and judged people not by their behavior but by her dad's behavior. I also found it frustrating that even though she was adamant she didn't want kids, she all of a sudden changes her mind after feeling her friend's baby move in her belly at a shower. Eye roll.
The one thing I liked was the characters, even the cats, being named after Gilligans Island characters.
Ginger was taught early on that stable life is better, except her office manager job (glorified title for secretary) is boring her out of her mind. Her passion was interior decorating. Also, her dad was an ER doc that drove him into alcoholism and that basically turned her off to all forms of alcohol... and ER doctors, even the hot gorgeous ER Doc called Greg Shaffer. Ginger thought donating a "home makeover" design package for her friend's charity auction is the perfect way to test the waters... and forget Greg, who decided that's someone who will break her. However, she did not count on Greg buying the condo above her... and winning the auction. Now Ginger was forced to redecorate Greg's place... and reevaluate Greg... and her own insecurities toward feelings beyond that of "safe and stable"...
This romance was really one sided, as it's all Ginger trying to resolve her feelings toward everything: mainly her career change, and her attitude toward love. Yet when "safe and stable" makes her miserable, how will she break the mold? Greg was just there for the ride, so to speak. Basically, Greg was there to help her and make her see that ER Docs won't all turn into her alcoholic father. That made the ride less satisfying than it could be.
The night of the event, she wasn't anticipating seeing Greg there while she was out with a date. Greg and Ginger once almost fell in love, but with Ginger's reservations on him being a surgeon she's passed on the opportunity to allow a relationship to develop further. When she finds out that Greg has won the free home makeover, she is determined to keep things on a professional basis only. However, now he's living upstairs from her at her condo unit and her meddling sister has her heart set on involving Greg in their lives with or without Ginger's permission.
she meets a gorgeous ER doctor but she tries to avoid him because her dad was an ER doc and he was miserable at everything else. She finally gets her big break, to decorate a home and to showcase her talent. She has a lot of negative things happen and she tries to make the best of things but it is not until she really faces her life and decides to live it her way that things start to get better. It was a very entertaining story and I would recommend it.
Not a lot of sexual content, just some passionate kissing, so I think any age group would be comfortable reading this story.
This was a cute read. Ginger was in a slump both romantically and with her work. Meeting Greg, she felt instant attraction, and as they both got to know each other better, she knew he was the real thing.
Greg's career, and initially, his location weren't a perfect fit for Ginger (past prejudices with family history). Ginger sees his kind, genuine, and thoughtful actions, and personality as she works on decorating his apartment, and he always surprises her with his help, support, and kindness, along with the best of kisses on occasion. Ginger, coping with her sister, Mom, and Father's issues, has some doubts, but Greg helps her see through the chaos, and supports her as she makes steps for a better future for herself, and for him, as she sees beyond the attraction to the genuine, wonderful man that wants her for her beautiful, genuine, and unexpected self!
Fun, cute read, and always a good escape for me!
