Featuring an over 50, successful heroine, Dating A Cougar is an original and unique contemporary romance from USA Today Bestselling Author Donna McDonald.
Alexa gave up on finding Mr. Right. No matter how well he kisses, younger man Casey Carter is not for her.
After two decades of looking for true love and never finding it, aging model and lingerie designer, Alexa Ranger, had finally given up searching. It’s shocking at fifty to find herself wanting a real sex life again, and even more shocking to be an older woman attracted to a younger man.
Thirty-eight-year-old, medically retired Marine, Casey Carter is incredibly sexy, but a relationship with the man is totally out of the question. Casey is related to her daughter’s boyfriend.
No matter how well Casey kisses, the last thing Alexa needs is another talk-show-worthy drama in her already complicated life.
ABOUT THIS SERIES - Are you tired of younger heroines and heroes getting all the action? How about something really different geared for romance readers over 40? The Never Too Late series is a collection of seven do-over stories about finding love and romance a bit later in life. These contemporary romances are intentionally heavy on humor and light on tears. The strong heroines are successful in life, but not successful in love, as their friends are quick to point out. The alpha heroes are drool-worthy, confident, and know what it takes to make a woman feel loved and wanted.
*** ”This is a great character study in romance and the first of the series. I can't wait to read them all. I definitely recommend this author and her books to anyone who loves a good romance and likes to laugh. And keep an eye out for more from this wonderful lady.” ~ Jesse V. Coffey, National Examiner and On-Air Host of Edin Road Radio

From the Author
At the time, I was dating and living with the Marine who is now my husband. I went home and told him that I was going to have my younger man hero also be a wounded veteran who was trying to put his life back together. While he loved me for feeling compassion for those wounded young men, he also suggested that the age of Alexa, the 50 year heroine of my already unconventional romance, might be enough of a challenge for the first book of my first ever series.
I knew he was right about the risks, but Casey Carter's character grew so large in my mind that I just couldn't see Alexa Ranger loving anyone else. Since I hadn't been able to resist my own Marine, their conflict-riddled, but very funny relationship just made such perfect sense to me. As for the older woman younger man dynamic, well I personally knew someone who waited many years for the older woman in his life to get used to a similar idea of age not making a difference. Art does indeed. . .once in a while. . .imitate life at least a little bit.

We have Casey, a disabled Marine, whose wife died because of cancer two years earlier. He has yet to feel attracted to another woman despite his cousin repeatedly trying to find a girl for him. He does not want just a one night stand. He wants a meaningful relationship and commitment. None grab his attention until Alexa.
We have Alexa, a 50 year old former model who still looks great and is a business owner a few times over and RICH due to her business expertise. She divorced her daughter Jenna's father after only 2 years of marriage because he discovered he was gay. Now all you women out there have GOT to know how this made Alexa feel and the shields she erected to prevent herself from being hurt again. Then she met Casey.
Now some may think these characters do not have depth or were not developed fully. I beg to differ. Maybe you just did not read the book well enough to 'get;' the premise of the book. Trust me here folks. You do come to understand and know these characters fully.
Others may think this book is too much sex. Usually I would agree with you. For this book, I think the sex is needed. Picture a healthy, virile young man of 38 who has not had a meaningful sexual relationship for 2 years. Casey even mentions it has been so long since a female attracted him that he was beginning to wonder if his man parts also got injured while in the military. Then we have Alexa who has not had sex in a long while too. Mix them both together and we have HEAT! Sorry, but very necessary. Especially necessary when 2 people both have a chemistry working for them.
I would recommend this book for 21 and over primarily because of the sex in it. I think it makes a great read, and near the end, you have the added bonus of a women waking up to the fact that she had better accept this love before something takes it away.
Enjoy your read.
I'm not a fan of the Cougar lifestyle (being 59, I have issues about the "cougar" moniker). I read the negative reviews first because I wanted to see if some spoilers were noted. Fortunately, they did include some insightful ones and, they were the reason I decided to read this story. Here are some of my favorite Alexa and Casey highlights:
Parent to adult Jenna--early on in the story you know that Alexa is menopausal so there will be no fertilizing of 50 year old eggs. I'm not a fan of "surprise" pregnancy/baby stories. I liked that Alexa's relationship with Jenna was healthy and supportive.
Alexa was financially solvent. I was relieved to be spared from having to read about yet another financially clueless broke and destitute woman. When someone has been employed for several decades, I don't want to read about how life's hardships have completely wiped out every penny you have ever earned, saved, invested, etc., and your only recourse is to sell yourself to someone. Please know that I wanted to use another word, but didn't want it to be censored. If a 22-26 year old boy/man can be a self-made millionaire/billionaire, why can't a 50-year old former model be a millionairess/billionairess?
Real-Man Casey--his character and glimpses of his back story were so well written that you understood why he was not intimidated or emasculated in any way by Alexa's money savvy. Casey provided Alexa what she had been desperately looking for all those years. Money can't buy you the emotional, sensual, and weak-in-the-knees slide-down-to-the-floor sexplay and sex that 38 year-old Casey lavished on her 50 year-old body. YES!!! Her heartbreak from Jenna's father was quite sobering, but logical and realistically relatable. Casey's real-man confidence in his value to his woman allowed him to be able to cope with her family dynamics.
Sensual, sexy, and cleanly descriptive heat was a welcome change from all the FSOG copycats. Alexa and Casey's sexplay moments were so well written, you didn't need the gratuitous F-bombs, explicit body part words, or the other crude colloquialisms so commonly used--ad nauseam to describe sex scenes in erotica/romance these days. The shock value has long since lost its impact and add very little to the reading experience.
Circle of family and friendship--this story also celebrated the friendship of three very different women over 40. Friendships are like a marriage--they require work and commitment and this reader was emotionally committed to wanting the characters in this story to always be there for one another.
Obviously, I really enjoyed this story!

At the start of the book we are introduced to Alexa Ranger, a former model and lingerie designer. She is introduced to her daughters fiance's uncle, ex-marine Casey Carter, and there is an instant connection between the 2 of them. The only problem is Alexa is 50 and Casey is only 38, Alexa has decided that he's far too young for her, whilst Casey has decided he won't stop until Alexa is his. There is also the family connection of Alexa's daughter living with Casey and her fiance, can any of these issues be resolved?
Throughout the book we learn more of the backgrounds of Casey and Alexa and meet a few of Alexa's closest friends who she confides in. Most of the characters are larger than life, beautiful and successful, but to be honest you end up getting quite absorbed in the story and this doesn't detract from the story.
This book was a good length and took me a week or so to read on and off. Although I wasn't glued to the book I was definaley interested to see what would happen next, and to be honest I can say that I wasn't able to predict what would happen next. Every time it seemed something would go right for Casey he managed to mess things up with Alexa and I was never sure how it would end for them.
Overall I liked this book and found the characters likable and believable, even if they were a little bit over the top at times.

A great, fun, read. This book also introduces you to her two close girlfriends, her daughter, her assistant/confidante and ex-husband, thus setting up a great series.
If you have downloaded this freebie, give it a go, if it's not your scene, then okay, but give it a chance and I promise you won't be disappointed.
Loved this one so much, I downloaded the rest in the series and read them over the weekend.
A diamond of a find which has given a fellow cougar... hope
Enjoy!

The first couple of chapters are slow, but stick with it and the characters come alive.
It's mainly a love story about two very strong minded people, an older woman and a younger man. It's well worth reading by all ages because the dialog and the relationships between all the different characters is often funny and insightful.
Some of the other characters stories are woven throughout this book and others have books of their own, continuing the series.
I downloaded this book because it was free, I was very pleased I did. It has introduced me to a new author who I will happily read again in the future.
Thanks for the entertainment!

Like others, I found the mistakes - missed words and the like - a little frustrating, but then this seems to be par for the course with the Free Kindle books and it seems churlish to complain, when one is not paying for the book. It is a puzzle to me though, that with electronic checking systems and human proofing, that there are quit so many text errors.
That said, I'd happily read more of this series, or by the same author.
