So being in the purified water industry and a grade A prepper nerd, I have been checking most of the water being sold in these small pouches. Many, if you look are just tap water and bagged. The TDS (total dissolved solids) I’ve seen range from 100-300 ppm which is normal.

This water is HEAVILY purified. I’ve done the simple test here and lab tested it and both come out as 4 ppm.
Purified Water is 10 ppm or below.
Distilled water is 5 or even 1 ppm

This is Reverse osmosis Water and it’s been heavily filtered through carbon blocks for taste as evidenced by the soft taste and slightly acidic PH of around 5.

expired water and an attempted cover up

I received a case of this water with an expiration date listed on the box for 2024. I would have just put the case with my emergency storage without further thought, but the bottom of the box was wet, so I knew we must have a leak. When I opened the case to go through it to find the leaking packet of water, I found that all but 19 of the 64 packs expired on May 2020--4 months prior to my receipt of the package. The other 19 were newer. They had a 2025 date. One of the unexpired 2 water paks that had the 2025 date was empty (I found my leak!). It was as if this company tried to hide the expired water in a different case and then placed enough 2025 paks over the top of those to try to pass it off as okay. If one of the packs hadn't leaked, they would have fooled me. I am very disappointed that this company was so dishonest.

Leaking pouches

I want to give it 5 stars, because this is a big part of my bug out bags. However, two of the pouches leaked inside the box. I know that's only 2 out of 64, but still... (there were no visible tears or cuts on the bags, they just leaked out of the seals).
The worst part, was that the water leaked out of the box containing the water, and damaged the book that Amazon had packed in the same box. What were they thinking packing a book in the same box as a case of water?
The water in the undamaged pouches is fine. I opened one up, which was packed in 2017 (good until 2022), and it was fresh and clean.

The bags were so flimsy that they arrived leaking. It's hard to use bags of water when they just leak over whatever you put them into. I would not recommend this to anyone.

Why you should and why you shouldn't!

My wife and I purchased a box of these to distribute among our bug out bags. We haven't tested one out yet to taste it but honestly we hope we never have too! Drinking out of a plastic packet doesn't sound all that romantic. On the flip side though I'm happy to have it. It looks like a great backup as far as water goes for either in your house, in your car, bug out bags and whatever else you can think of. So many of them come in a box and they are extremely reasonably priced in my opinion. You can distribute them among the various areas of your life just in case you come to a point where you need some water whether it's an emergency or not.

Why you should:

Nice and lightweight packets, very durable and strong, thick plastic. very sturdy to the point where I do not think anything less than deliberately cutting it with a knife with puncture it. They arrived quickly, packaged well and seemed like an extremely good value for money. We look forward to never using them!

Why you shouldn't:

There are many different brands of emergency water out there and while my wife and I found this one to be the best you may personally find a different one that you like better. There are also other options as far as emergency water goes such as filtration bottles, water tablets and so on. before buying these you may want to explore other options depending on your circumstances.

As far as this purchase goes I am very happy with what we received and again, I look forward to never having to use them!

Over the years (every five years) we restock our DATREX water pouches. They are great at the campsite, in the car, in an earthquake kit, on the boat, wherever you might need it. I had them in the car kit in the coldest winters and they never froze and never had a single pack leak. As for the expiration date, I ordered them in April/2020 and the expiration date is 4/2025. Any packs left over from the previous five years I drank, and they tasted just fine. I always recommend having several different water options and this is one of them.

Emergency Drinking Water Packets

I have used these in the past both in my military career and civilian life. These packets are designed to be frozen and thawed numerous times without damage to the content or package - I haven't found one yet that failed.
These are great for your vehicle emergency kits - keep a whole case sealed up and they will always be there., other emergency kits that you may have, and as a short term cover during any crisis when you don't have water.
The packaging is sturdy, but I still put them in a zip-top freezer bag "just in case" as you never know how many bumps and drops they may have to take.
Price is right, you'll find these less expensive at other retailors, but when you add $15-20 shipping (because of weight) with PRIME you're covered and yo know what you're getting and when.
These were packaged 4/20 and have an expiration date of 4/25 - which is normal for this product.

Honestly, I haven't tasted the water yet but I'm sure it's fine. What I can say, is that these are good to leave in the car all year round. Where I live, the inside of the car can get over 100 degrees in the summer and below -20 degrees in the winter. I've had a stack of these in the trunk for about two years and have not had one puncture, leak, explode, crack, etc. Will buy more when they expire.
