Where do I begin? The book starts off exactly at the cliffhanger that kept me on edge for months: Warren, Fury and Reuel returning 17 years after they left for Nulterra thinking it had only been a day. I was crying when I realized how much time Warren and Fury missed with their children. The bright spot of all of this was Iliana coming into her powers and being such a good kid. Her bond with her Appa (Warren) is a beautiful thing and leapt out of my Kindle. Her bond with Jett was also great to see, but I felt Warren and Nathan's pain (I have a daughter too).
This book was like a big old reunion. Characters from the earlier books are mentioned and Shannon Green had a pivotal role in the amazing climax of this book. She is still overbearing (her poor son) and obnoxious, but I actually liked her in this book.
The bond between Sloan and Adrianne was one of my favorites parts of the series, but they are fragmented for most of this book (so many tears on my Kindle). And having Azrael, such a strong character in the prior books behave like a broken person was also hard to see. His son Michael aka the Morningstar was arrogant to the point of being laughable, yet a controlling force that made me long for his comeuppance. His controlling everyone around him (not Iliana - she was not having it) and segregating his family from their loved ones gave the book a melancholy feel up until the the middle of the book where the battle began.
This book was so prescient considering where we are with COVID-19. There are some very scary parallels here. I got the chills reading some of it (she wrote this book months before it hit). Loss and devastation were prevalent, but there was always hope even in the darkest of moments.
I was on the edge of my seat for this entire book. Reuel as usual brought the comedy along with Nathan, Iliana and Warren. I laughed, cried, cursed and smiled throughout. The ending was so fulfilling that I wished for those beautiful stairs to appear here for real.
Be sure to check out the epilogue (it definitely brings the LOL's). This book (and series) is a must read for not only for Hydernation members, but anyone who loves a good read with characters that become like family.
Elicia, thank you so much for sharing your gift with us. You ended the series with the perfect amount of closure and some laughs. :)
Amazing! Brilliant! Terrifying! Exhilarating! Satisfying! Addictive! EPIC! There aren’t enough adjectives to describe this phenomenal book–heck, this entire series!
This author, ELICIA HYDER, is mind-blowingly brilliant and so very creative at the very least and she also has to be a bit spooky to be able to come up with not just one of these other-worldly stories, but an entire jam-packed series that holds you on the edge of your seat until it is finished!
I have loved, hated, then loved again Nathan and Warren throughout this series but Zion has made me love them both so much more, but for completely different reasons. You will have to read this series to fully understand what I mean. It was a love/hate relationship with many of the colorful characters as well as a burst of pride for others. There are so many twists and turns, intricate events and gut-wrenching surprises, one couldn’t possible give spoilers without re-writing the entire book.
The true heroes are very evident and the heartwarming revelations are many. Read it! You will love it as much as I do! I just wish (hope) that there is MORE from Asheville!
The conclusion and 9th book of the Soul Summoner series. Urban fantasy. Not a stand-alone.
A war between angels threatens to leave the human population devastated. It’s the year 2032 and Warren, Fury and Iliana lead the forces trying to stop the devastating conclusion.
Warning: this book includes the after effects of a manufactured virus that wipes out half the population. It is in no way related to our current situation (early 2020). It is fiction. The story uses the virus as backstory.
War and fighting and even arguments disturb me. I had to back off a bit in the of middle of the story for perspective. Don’t get me wrong - it has NOTHING to do with the current world environment. I just needed more happy to go along with the war in this book.
The characters are strong and well developed. The series is intense and electrifying. The second half of the series, written mostly from Warren’s perspective, is fierce and powerful. The conclusion is everything we wanted.
It had me laugh out loud, cry, sometimes both at the same time. I made funny faces, gasped aloud and loved every second. So much so that I think I will go back and read through the whole series once more, just so I can read through from beginning to end in one go. I cannot praise this book enough. It gave me everything I wanted in a series finale and then some. Elicia Hyder - thank you. Thank you for making us fall in love with the characters, for taking us on one hell of a ride, for the many emotions and for being such an approachable author who really appreciates and loves her fan. I CANNOT wait to see what else you have in store for us. If you are reading this review and haven't read the first book - immediately drop everything you are doing and get started. Best decision you can make. Enjoy :)

I will miss all these characters ( might just have to read again from the first one - the Soul Summoner) but this nicely tied up all the ends and although we lost some along the way They all ended in the right places
I fully recommend that you read this but start at the beginning of the series and read them all
I look forward to what the next journey will be ......
