About the Author

For over twenty-five years, Ava Sturgeon has helped young women ages twelve to twenty-two embrace the privileges and responsibilities of following Christ. As a career high school teacher, she's seen their struggles. As a longtime facilitator for her church's youth and college studies, she's also seen their hope. Ava's Bible study A Daughter's Worth (2006) guides young women toward their Heavenly Father's acceptance. A Daughter's Heart (2011) challenges readers to not only think on God's holiness but also to respond. A Daughter's Worth was amazing. I am a seventeen year old girl who loves this book. If I would have read this in ninth grade, high school would have been so much easier. It answers so many questions I had about God. This Bible study helped me get so much closer to God. The author did a fantastic job writing this study. I recommend it to ANY teenage girl from about eighth grade and up. There were so many verses that I would have never found in the Bible alone. Many of these verses have helped me face so much of what I see in high school.

Parents: This was an amazing Bible Study. I did it by myself and loved it. Now my church's girls group is about to start it too! I'm a teenager so I know this can help your daughter understand how beautiful she is in God's eyes!!

I am currently leading a girl's Bible study using this book with girls aged 13-18. They are loving it and are providing me with 100% participation! The book is written in such a way that the girls are challenged to think about the relevant topics and are encouraged to write down their thoughts. It is a great tool to spur discussions and is helpful in pointing girls to scriptures for dealing with real life situations that are important in this generation. It is fabulous and I recommend it for any teenaged girl.

This book was used in a mentoring situation and has been a good tool. The book is broken up into 12 weeks but actually has 11 weeks worth of material, the first week is a two page overview. Each week focuses on a particular topic and includes 5 short daily devotions. The devotions are well written and encourage the development of daily Bible reading and prayer. I have a mixed opinion of the book which includes:
Pros:
1. The topics covered touch on areas in a girl's life that are pivotal to their growth and development as a person in society as well as a person of faith. It helps establish or build on a solid foundation that is important at all ages but especially as a teen.
2. Room is given to do some journaling or prayer writing which can be helpful to process what is being discussed and also to look back on and see your own progress as well as God's hand in your life.
3. With a good leader, this book would be approachable and helpful to Christian and non-Christian girls alike as the topics covered are things that every girl deals with on a daily basis.
Cons:
1. The topics are not always covered very well. Many times only the perfect or ideal side of an issue is discussed which is very impractical and narrow as far as point of view and life experience are concerned.
2. Many times the Scripture passages chosen simply do not make sense or fit the given topic at all. I've been through Bible school and seminary and while I can explain the context of the verses and what they mean, I can't make them fit a discussion that they have nothing to do with. I often find myself finding Scriptures myself to go along with each devotion.
3. The book doesn't offer very much in terms of discussion questions or prompts but is great for self-reflection and growing in faith.

I did this Bible study last year, my senior year in high school. This study has a lot of amazing things to say about what we go through as a teenage girl. It really helps that the author was a high school teacher so she really knows what is going on in current teenage lives. This book is very encouraging and it is not so overwhelming that you feel like you don't have time for it. I highly recommend this book!

This book is wonderful. It is written specifically for teen girls and offers support, guidance and self-confidence building lessons that are Bible based. It guides the girls to understand that God, our loving Father, made us just the way we are for a reason. There are no mistakes. We have used this book as a mother/daughter Bible study (my girls are 13 & 16). Teens today face so many more challenging/dangerous issues than when their parents were growing up. Times have changed and kids today need all the support and understanding from their parents that they can get. This book is a good tool for supporting and connectin with your teen.
*When I suggested the Bible study to my girls, I also suggested that we eat a special fun snack (of their choosing) each week when we met- teens can often be lured by food. :)

I am a youth pastor and decided to use this book as the basis for the girls portion of a Disciple Now weekend. The results are fantastic! We now have ladies desiring to use this book for ongoing girls discipleship.

It seems that Ava Sturgeon has put into practical words what all ladies, young and old, want to know for themselves.

This Bible study is a wonderful gift for teenaged girls. I've given several to friends' daughters and to the babysitter of my children. I have a copy for my six-year-old daughter for when she becomes a teen. I've read the book and would highly recommend A Daughter's Worth.

Currently I am doing this study with a group of high school girls. I have had almost total participation. They all seem eager to learn about what God wants for them, not what the world has for them! I would recommend it for a beginner group!
