About Davalynn Spencer
Several years ago, a handsome, dark-eyed cowboy sauntered into my life and the gate to adventure swung wide. And what a ride! Yes, I married him and became the wife and mother of rodeo bullfighters. My front-seat view on a fast-paced life provided great opportunities to write for national rodeo markets and win awards in the process. Today I'm living my dream as a novelist and living for real on Colorado's Front Range with Blue the Cowdog and mouse detectors Annie and Oakley. Join me in the inspirational Western romance world for stories about rugged cowboys, their challenges, and their loves.
When I'm not writing Western romance, I'm playing the guitar or piano, walking along the river with Blue, or pilfering chocolate from the stash in my desk. Someday I'll get to come to the UK and see all the beautiful places I read and dream about. My ancestors lived in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, so perhaps I feel the connection in my blood. Until that happy day, I'll settle for the startling blue sky and massive peaks of Colorado's Rocky Mountains in the US.
I love to connect with my readers. You can reach me in the following locations:

Ah, peace. What a priceless commodity these days. Isaiah 26:3 offers an equation for finding peace like no other.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee.”
The old King James English may grate on your ears and if so, please look up different versions. But I use King James for this verse because it is the version I memorized years ago. It’s been in my mind and heart that2 days ago Read more -

Have you ever read something familiar and found yourself seeing it with fresh eyes?
It happens to me frequently, and lately it’s been Matthew 11:28-30. Clearly this passage speaks to me, for I wrote about it in September. Is God trying to tell me something?
Last week in my morning quiet time, I read a segment of this scripture in a collection* I read from every day.

After commiserating over recent heartaches the other day, a friend said, “God obviously has different plans than what I had envisioned, and for you as well. And yet, His plans are always perfect.”
The comment stopped me cold.
This person had some seriously disappointing things happen, as had I. “And yet …”

From my journal, the evening of December 21, 2020 . . .
“It wasn’t so much the bright star convergence. It was standing outside in the dark with my camera and tripod – watching, listening, feeling the glory of God – seeing the night sky change, realizing that the God of the manger is the God who set the planets on their courses. God loved, so He gave.
He promised.
He revealed.
He pursued.
He’s been after us all our lives, and to prove it,
He came.
In His most vulnerable condition,
He could not be stopped.
Yet, at the peak of His earthly walk,
He surrendered to …
Love.
When humans see Him again,

A working dad took his son to day care early one morning and was surprised to find the police there. He soon learned from the distraught director that someone had broken into the center the night before and stolen all their food.
Instead of leaving his little boy, the dad took him to the market, asked him what the children ate during the day, and loaded a shopping cart with groceries.

Do you need a reason to celebrate Christmas this year?
Holidays for many people are difficult moments during which they grit their teeth and just get through. Reasons vary – from death of a loved one or loss of a friend, to economic hardship that precludes what that person thinks a holiday should be.
Painful memories often get in the way of our celebration.
But a holiday is so much more than memories and, if we let it,1 month ago Read more -

A friend reminded me last week of the day-to-day aspect of faith when she mentioned an Old Testament challenge from the great warrior Joshua:
“Choose you this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24:15 ).
The reference was familiar to me, perhaps too much so. For as someone who has believed in God’s goodness and grace for most of her life, the choice came long ago.
Or so I thought.

“In everything give thanks.”
Those ancient words are a tall order this year.
Resentment tries to wedge in between them, dragging in excuses, arguments, and reasons for why we really don’t have to be thankful for everything. Maybe not anything. After all, this was 2020. What went right?

Inspirational Historical Western Romance
A hidden fear. A daring challenge. A liberating love.
A motorcar accident on a rainy Chicago night steals Ella Canaday’s fiancé as well as her ability to ride. Clinging to the remnants of her independence, she cuts her hair and her ties with her wealthy father and takes a train west as the seamstress with a moving-picture company. Colorado offers the change of scenery she needs. But she doesn’t expect the bold cowboy who challenges her to reclaim both the loves she thought she’d lost forever.
Cale Hutton needs the money the moving-picture company is paying for use of his cattle and horses, but he’s not keen on some city gal gettin’ in the way out at the ranch. Between the filming crew by day and a rogue cattle-killing bear by night, his attention snags on the little bob-haired seamstress. Something about her easy manner around his horse sets his mind to find out what she’s hiding and why she has such a pull on his heart.

Sweet Historical Western Romance
An Improper Proposal – First in the Front Range Brides collection of stories about strong women who find and defend love in 1880s Colorado.
**A standalone Western romance!**
Love hadn’t brought her to Colorado, but it might be the one thing that keeps her there.
Mail order bride Mae Ann Remington won’t let circumstances get in her way. When someone else’s greed costs her everything—including her groom—she does the only thing she can in a new town with no money or friends. She asks a stranger to marry her.
Cattleman Cade Parker stops at the bank to withdraw cash for his sister, not find himself a wife. But that’s exactly what happens after a bank robbery leaves a farmer dead and his headstrong bride-to-be making a desperate business proposition.
Convinced he’s gone loco, Cade accepts the spirited young woman’s offer, and they stop by the church before heading to the ranch, his horses, and the herd. He’s soon adding to Mae Ann’s fine cooking skills by teaching her to ride, shoot, and do what he tells her. She manages the first two fairly well, but gets her back up at the third.
Cade struggles to keep his emotional distance from the stubborn gal whose gentle ways start drawing him in. But when a greedy neighbor challenges Mae Ann’s inheritance of her former intended’s run-down farm, Cade and Mae Ann drive to court at the county seat and into the jaws of a deadly storm. Not only must Cade fight to keep his new bride safe, he’s got to keep his heart from stampeding out of control.
Taking on snakes, scoundrels, and second chances is one thing, but falling in love wasn’t part of the deal.

**A standalone romance novel!**
An Unexpected Redemption - Book 2 in the Front Range Brides collection of stories about strong women who find and defend love in 1880s Colorado.
Abandoned by her faithless husband for the Dakota gold fields, rancher's daughter Elizabeth Beaumont returns to her hometown determined to prove she’s not the impetuous girl she once was. Armed with a new skill and old determination, she’s intent on making it on her own. Discovering that the new sheriff lives downstairs in the same boarding house wouldn’t be nearly so frustrating if he’d stay out of her affairs, quit calling her Betsy, and stop making her wonder if she could love again.
Sheriff Garrett Wilson’s first attempt at law enforcement cost an innocent bystander his life, so he exchanged his deputy’s badge for a drover’s bedroll. Now he’s back wearing a star in a Front Range cow town, hunting an arsonist and falling for a woman who wants to know the secret behind his deepest scar. He can run again from his painful past, or he can stay and fight for the town that needs him and the woman who’s worked under his skin and into his heart.

Straight to My Heart – Book 2
Columbines, cougars, and a controlling cowboy are not what Livvy Hartman expects when she moves to the Bar-HB to care for her widowed grandfather. The infuriating foreman was her childhood nemesis, and now he’s trying to tell her what a woman can and cannot do on a cattle spread. She’ll show him—and she does—until he shows her how much he cares.
As foreman of the Bar-HB, Whit Hutton always gets his way—except where his boss’s granddaughter is concerned. Once the victim of his childhood pranks, Livvy has a mind of her own, distracting him from keeping his crew out of the railroad feud over a narrow, mountain right-of-way. Now he’s feuding with his own heart over what to do about the feisty beauty. He can’t keep her from joining the roundup any more than he can keep her out of his thoughts. But when he rescues her from a stalking predator, he realizes what he’d lose if he lost her.
Romancing the Widow – Book 3
Young widow Martha Stanton returns to her parents’ parsonage in Cañon City, bereft of love and deprived of hope. As dry and lifeless as the fossils she once collected during the city’s infamous “bone wars,” she resigns herself to a dull existence—until she crosses paths with an old flame and a darkly mysterious stranger.
Colorado Ranger Haskell Jacobs is on a mission. And the flame-haired beauty in black who steps off the train isn’t what he’s looking for. Or is she? As drawn as he is to her fiery spirit, Haskell learns that she has connections to the horse thief he’s hunting. Entanglement with a preacher’s daughter is the last thing he needs—and the one thing he can’t avoid.

(“Director’s Cut!” - Revised second edition, first published in 2013 as The Rancher’s Second Chance.)
Laura Bell is looking for a second chance, not another romance. Devastated by her husband’s infidelity, the resulting divorce, and her mother’s lost battle with cancer, she comes home to the Sierra Nevada foothills to heal and start over. Everything is the same at her family’s hilltop home—except it isn’t. And neither is the boy next door. He’s grown into a sharp-edged former Marine with secret wounds of his own.
Eli Hawthorne doesn’t recognize the slicked-back city gal as his scrawny little tag-along from twelve years earlier. But when his dog, Goldie, leads him to her at the base of the old burned-out oak tree, a teenage boy’s unanswered prayers come rushing back. Laura Bell is finally home. But he’s half a man now, and his scars may be too much for her to accept.
Laura and Eli have a chance to fill the empty places in each other’s heart unless pride keeps Eli from trusting God and fear blinds Laura to the miracle she’s been looking for in the boy she left behind.

Historical Western Romance
Romancing the Widow – The Cañon City Chronicles – Book 3
The Hutton family is back—two generations of adventurous men and courageous women carving out a life in the Old West.
A heart-tugging tale of hope, danger, and love.
Revised from 2014 and winner of the 2015 Will Rogers Medallion Award for Inspirational Western Fiction.
