About David Burton
Welcome to my author page.
In my youth I traveled by motorcycle through Mexico, US, Canada and Alaska. From motorcycles I turned to the ocean, building and sailing his own boats to Mexico, Tahiti, Hawaii, and through the Panama Canal to Florida. I spent a lot of time reading while on the water, so decided to write books I would have wanted to read at sea.
Having swallowed the anchor, I now mop floors and collect trash for money, write for a living, and have become a (temporarily?) unrequited sailor.
Many of my books involve water or sailing. "Girl at Sea" (water and sailing)a YA and adult coming-of-age novel has been revised and is now available in e-book and print editions.
"Programed for Murder" (water and sailing) a Tommy Case mystery and its sequel, "Programed for Love" are now available.
Thrillers - "Mapping the Glades" (water) is also available in e-book and print editions.
"Soul Retrievers" (formally "Hell Cop") and its sequel, "Warn the Devil" (formerly "The Golden Palace") are supernatural adventures - to hell and back - literally. Not much water there!
Available in e-book and print editions.
Indiana Jones would have trouble keeping up with Soul Retrievers!
The second and third Blood Justice novels - "Blood on the Water" and "Blood on the Bayou" are now available in e-book and print editions. (Lots of water)
"Blood Justice" and "Blood on the Water" are contemporary vampire thrillers available in e-book, paper and hardback formats. Simone Gireaux, one of the main characters is a 360 year-old vampire. The short story, "An Accidental Vampire", tells how she became a vampire. "New Blood" is the beginning of her journey to survive and thrive. A novella, "Young Blood", continues her journey. A novella, "Broken Bones: A love and revenge story," is Simone in 1920s New Orleans, before she was there in "Blood on the Bayou."
Additional stories will follow her through history until she meets Justine Kroft in "Blood Justice".
"Down Home" a new sci-fi, vampire mystery novella is a future Simone Gireaux story - now available for download or in paperback.
I have also written several screenplays.

With the help of Justine’s only true friend, Teresa Diaz (a mortal whose daughter is missing) and Detective Harry Frazer (who has loved Justine for years), Justine and Simone join forces to find and kill the mortal men involved in her daughter’s death. But the real killer is Stephan Sinakov, the self-anointed Master of the Sinakov Vampire Family. In their final confrontation with Sinakov, Justine must make a choice between her daughter and the mortal man whose love for her has put his life on the block.
The historical novella Broken Bones is the story of Simone Gireaux and Fin (from the paranormal thriller, Blood on the Bayou) when they first met in New Orleans in the 1920s.
Broken Bones is also part of the thrilling historical An Accidental Vampire series featuring the vampire Simone Gireaux.
Revenge is on 270 year old vampire Simone's mind when she journeys to New Orleans in the 1920s. By chance she saves Amalie Chartres's life, and they become unlikely friends. Soon she meets Amalie's boyfriend, Fin, who quickly becomes much more than a friend.
Simone hunts for Armand Joubert, a Ghost Vampire, undetectable by other vampires, who murdered her mortal friend, Charlotte. Unable to defeat him, Simone enlists the aid of a witch who concocts a spell – potent for only five days. In return, Simone must travel to Hollywood and steal back a powerful amulet.
Simone and Fin plan to leave New Orleans together, a move that will break Amalie's heart and add to the guilt Simone carries from a hundred past wrongs. But before they leave Joubert kidnaps Amalie's son for an unknown reason. Rescuing the boy, whom she has grown fond of, gives Simone her chance to end Joubert – if the spell works. Or will it be another heartbreak for Amalie?
In a last ditch effort to help Amalie before he runs off with Simone, Fin goes against an aggressive young vamp who wants Amalie's fashionable speakeasy, The Chartres Club. As a result of that foolish endeavor Simone must choose between Love, Life, Revenge, or something sensible.
Blood on the Bayou will be published November 1, 2017
When an innocent soul is accidentally sent to Hell, loved ones can hire a certain specialist to return the soul to Heaven Gate. However, if the specialist dies in Hell proper, his soul is trapped there for eternity. These specialists who risk damnation are known as Soul Retrievers.
Getter has begun an assignment he takes personally, perhaps too personally: retrieve the soul of Brittany, a ten-year old girl, the same age his own daughter would have been had she lived. This time, however, a strange plot is brewing behind the normal dangers of Hell. Retrievers are disappearing, including Getter's brother-in-law, and an army is forming in secret. Teamed with Sneaker, a female Soul Retriever dealing with her new “Life” as a vampire, and an odd collection of retrievers, souls and demons, Getter only wants to finish his mission. But whispers of prophecy tell of a war between Satan and Mephisto, the Helland Security Chief, and name Getter as a man with a destiny he does not want.
These men and women who brave the depths and horrors of the underworld to rescue the unfortunate spirits who have been incorrectly sent to Hell are not easy to come by, but it’s the only way to bring a pure soul to its rightful place in Heaven. Getter is one such Soul Retriever, and on top of his day-to-day grind against demons, wormholes, golems, and worse, he happens to be the subject of a certain prophecy which may bring balance to Heaven, Hell, and All of Creation.
This time, Getter is sent down to the realm of Satan to retrieve the soul of a man called Matthew Ainsley on what is supposed to be a relatively mundane expedition. Unfortunately for Getter, it becomes rapidly more complicated than he expects, and he’s forced to team up with a few others to finish the job. Gregory, the 150-year-old soul of a Scotsman who has helped him out in the past, escorts Getter to the Sanctuary to meet up with his on-again, off-again partner Sneaker. Sneaker isn’t one to meddle with: her skills are among the best in the business, but she rarely receives the acclaim she deserves from the other mostly-male Soul Retrievers. On top of all that, she’s recently been turned into a vampire, and isn’t terribly pleased with the ordeal.
Together, the trio discovers that things aren’t all hunky dory downstairs in the underworld - there are many who believe Satan has lost his edge and fallen out of touch with the reality of Hell, and there are those who would see him deposed as ruler. Mephisto, the Chief of Helland Security, is one such schemer. In order for the status quo to be maintained, the Council of Soul Retrievers decides to take action. When someone even more evil than Satan wants to take over Hell, and doesn't care about disrupting the balance of the universe, there's only one thing to do - Warn The Devil. But will that warning be enough? Will Satan even take heed of this warning from a Soul Retriever?
This exciting supernatural adventure is the sequel to Soul Retrievers. Another vivid romp through the diverse landscape of Hell, Warn The Devil’s unlikely heroes join forces to keep the balance of evil - for good of humanity.
