Editorial Reviews

Review

...useful far beyond the small circle of scholarly experts... The Treatise has a fair claim to be the most important and influential philosophical text ever written in English... After more than 250 years, Hume is still at the front line of philosophical inquiry... This edition belongs in any university or college library anywhere in the world, and its publication will certainly excite more than a murmur among philosophers and scholars. Robert Callergard, Theoria

I may definitely be put in the latter category. As a serious Hume student I greatly admire important scholarship. Of course I will never read all of this material, but as a Hume completist (are there many of us with this curious obsessive-compulsive disorder?), I probably have purchased many books that I will never finish. But I ALWAYS read some of the purchased book (usually 5-50 pp. upon receipt of the book). Honestly, even the most interested student will be bored with most of this detail. But the editor is to be complimented, as this type of scholarship is necessary for future Hume scholars.

P.S. Lest the reader take me for a student with ADD, I have finished around 250 books in the last 20 years, including 6 on the philosophy of David Hume.

As text, this is a excellent, but there is no analitical index by L.A.Selby -Beggie published by Oxford Claredon press First Edition 1888.I think the index is critical to undestand this thesis.
