A real toe-tapper!

Format: Audio CD

An eminently listenable recording, and you'll probably find yourself humming some of the tunes hours later! For those specifically interested in early-19th-century music, Shostak and company have come up with a nice selection of pieces that would have been played in Crockett's time, if not by Crockett himself (with the obvious exception of the 1954 Ballad of Davy Crockett from the TV show, thrown in at the very end after a 19-century piece by the same name). The star of the show, of course, is the fiddle, which supposedly belonged to Crockett and has been lovingly restored to playing condition, accompanied by other instruments (piano, guitar) that are reproductions of 19-century originals. The printed insert has some interesting notes about the individual songs and the instruments used on the recording, along with appropriate snippets from Davy Crockett's autobiography. The musicians play with skill and obvious enthusiasm, and one certainly doesn't need to be a 19th-century music enthusiast to enjoy listening to this one!

Fantastic! Better than expected!

Ordered this for my 6 year-old's birthday. So glad I did, he and the rest of us love it! So nice and upbeat to listen to over and over throughout the day. Can't go wrong….no need to buy any others, this is great. A nice (plentiful) collection of songs. Great way to make violin lessons appealing to kids…. so good for their brain, concentration and math skills.

Good CD

As a historic re-enactor, I'm always looking for good music. I also liked the 1 click purchase feature and downloads.
You don't get liner notes. This is something Amazon should work on!
I would recommend this to folks who enjoy the period.
