About the author

Lisa Blackwood is the author of the bestselling Gargoyle and Sorceress urban fantasy series. Her work has also landed on the Wall Street Journal and the USA Today Bestseller lists as part of the Dominion Rising Anthology. When she’s not reading and writing, she also enjoys gardening and spending time with her horse and her dogs.
At present, she grudgingly lives in a small town in Southern Ontario, though she would much rather live deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic old-growth trees. Since she cannot live her fantasy, she decided to write fantasy instead.

The characters are easily understood and I found myself rooting for the good guys
While the writing isn’t bad on a mechanical level, the story lacks a cohesive plot. The events are needlessly convoluted, with several redundancies and some failures in logic. Moreover, despite many narrative lags to explain the characters, their history, and their situation, there are several question marks about setting, situation, and motivation.
The main characters – the Avatar’s male and female halves – are unfortunately overdrawn; Daryna is too calm and unreactive, Durnathyne leaps to instant overreaction. They lack the depth to feel like real people.
Unfortunately, I could not could get engaged.

A very promising start with an ending which makes the reader eager to find what happens next.

A well written opener to the start of this series. It sets the scene and gives you a glimpse in to charachters to be revealed. Looking forward to reading Sorceress Awakening.

It's very well written, and cleverly put together.
I love the lead characters, even as children they're only thoughts are for the good.
There's nonstop excitement and action, a real page turner.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, my only problem was that it was too short
