From the Back Cover
Married off at a tender age to a harsh, older widower, Lydia Gray can't help but feel a measure of relief when an accident claims his life. What happens next, however, is a surprise to everyone: Through an unforeseen fluke, Lydia finds herself the sole recipient of her late husband's fortune. But instead of granting her security, strife ensues as her adult stepchildren battle to regain the inheritance for themselves.
Lydia longs to wash her hands of the situation and determines to join her aunt in Alaska, putting financial decisions in the capable hands of her lawyer. The beauty and serenity of life in Sitka appeal to Lydia, as does Kjell Lindquist, the handsome owner of the local sawmill. But a new discovery in Lydia's life forces her to rethink her future.
She is bound to her past as never before...but what more must she sacrifice?

Cleanliness: This book is completely clean.
Violence: This book had some violence and domestic abuse. It's not super descriptive and I felt actually made the story have some real depth.
Religion: Christian with lots of discussions around religion.
Overall story: Like I said above great story and plot. 5 stars there. I just had a hard time with the dialogue between the characters.
This does have a nice happy ending and it's definitely a sweet romance story!! Happy reading.
Then let the true story of Lydia & Kjell begin. It is story of healing & the kind of reading that makes you want it not to end. As a Christian, who believes God's love & touch is TRUE, the reader is rest assured "the rest of the story is completed through His Love & Guidance. You will like the people He puts in Lydia's life to keep her safe & in His care: Kjell, Zerelda & Evie.
Please read, savor & enjoy this book. It will make you want more of Tracie Peterson's writings.
The good characters were nice people, and we did get some background and motive for the main characters. But I also felt like the story would have been stronger if the hero, heroine, and main bad guy were more deeply developed. For example, the bad guy was greedy and grew up seeing men using violent to get what they want, but still, why does he so strongly refuse to give up any part of the inheritance? He goes to such extreme measures. What fear was motivating him? The danger he poses adds suspense, but he was interesting enough of a character that I wanted to know more.
I enjoy the story and would recommend it to historical romantic suspense fans, but I also felt it could have been even better.
