The first question Ms. Gaskin poses is "what do you when the world becomes infected by a virus, a result of man's machinations, and the dead are running rampant?"
You throw the dice and try to survive against the dwindling odds, even if they are totally stacked against you.
Day Seven gives us a glimpse into "day seven," the last day of the infection period before the remaining survivors find out if they have succumbed to the effects of the virus or are immune to it. The wait is candidly terrifying. We see moments of loathing, fear, indecision, strength, and finality amongst the "survivors," with Hannah being the unwillingly lynch pin holding the group together.
Ms. Gaskin's story left me pondering a few things:
What happened before "day 7?" I am rather intrigued about the events that lead up to "day 7" for the survivors. How did the world go to hell in the handbasket? And how did Hannah end up as our anti-heroine? What events brought this particular group together?
Last, your ending left me shrieking "Cliffhanger!!!!! I know my girl Hannah didn't die, did she?" Such a tease...
Soooo, I await the prequel and the sequel:)
I can say I was left wanting more and hoping that maybe this is going to turn into a series so the story can be fleshed out. Fingers crossed. I gave it 3 1/2 stars. Fans of Zombie stories will definitely enjoy this one!
Hence 4 stars.
If you are not a zombie fan, you won't like. If you are a zombie fan, you probably will.
