Forstchen has hit it out of the park with “Day of Wrath”. I thought that “One Second After” was a frightening book....but.this story strikes far deeper and more viscerally because it has such potential to happen now....today.
I hate reviewers who are spoilers, and whose reviews read like book reports, so I’ll try not to say too much here....but I feel it is important that every potential reader realizes what this book is about: In "Day Of Wrath", Forstchen takes on the threat of ISIS staging a coordinated attack in and on America.
If you don’t know what ISIS is, then you truly have been living in a dream world these last few months. ISIS makes bin Laden’s team look almost like Sunday school teachers by comparison, as in real life they launch their murderous rampage of executions, beheadings and crucifixions. ISIS is THE number one terrorist organization out there, and since their offensive into Iraq in June, they have been threatening to bring their so called jihad to our shores.
Forstchen in his foreword explains that he wrote this book in direct response to their threats. Again, as in “One Second After’ he captures the horror of a potential disaster by turning it into a personal story about how a family could be impacted and with this book impacted with extreme violence. He presents the nightmare that ISIS targets our public schools and nation’s highways for attack. As a parent, it left me numbed.
A few concluding points. This book is short, about half the length of Forstchen's previous works that I've read. Second, it is obvious that the author is trying to present us with a warning of a very clear and present danger. Third, some things he hits will be highly controversial as this book gets out there, when he presents what he sees as, I suppose, the only means by which a terrorist attack on our public schools could at least be slowed down temporarily until help arrives. Finally, the ending is a definite knock out paragraph. Some will perhaps hate it, but many will find themselves nodding in agreement.
The most terrifying aspect of the story is that given the reality of the current situation on our southern border, events similar to the ones Forstchen has envisioned could very possibly actually happen....and happen very soon. Hang on for a very frightening ride. If you can finish this book without being left breathless and emotionally shaken, you are tougher than I am.
